Three biggest disgraces of the pathetic Bud Selig administration

This is an interesting dilemma for MLB. You don't want to hand the Phillies the WS by calling the deciding game' date=' especially a 1-run game, after 5 innings. That would be a huge black eye for the game. MLB should have made it clear a long time ago that no playoff game can be called early due to rain. Regardless of the inning and score, they should all be suspended games. On the other hand, what if it was 12-0 Phillies? How many people would tune in tomorrow to watch 4 innings of a rout just to see the Phillies' celebration pile? Not too many.[/quote']

At a very bizarre press conference after the game, Selig said he would have thrown out the rulebook and suspended the game even had the Rays not tied it.

Well, while it is clearly changing it from the way things are usually done, its not quite throwing the rulebook out (unless there is a limit on how long a rain delay can last).

Bud should just have called it a tie. :wedge:

1) 1994 postseason and World Series cancelled....the only commisioner ever who couldn't do the most basic component of his sport and actually complete the playing of a season.

2) All Star Game tie.

3) TV rights sold to a second rate cable network that is unable to air Game 6 of the ALCS and nation watches Steve Harvey show rerun instead.

If we are going to line up the "discraces" of Bud Selig's term in office, it's only fair to also show the other side of the coin.

From an earlier post of mine:

While I'm not the biggest Selig supporter, I hate to see the man thrown under the bus. Let's not forget that during his time as commissioner MLB has:

* Added interleague play

* Re-aligned from 2 divisions to 3 per league

* Created the Wildcard, giving more teams a chance to make the post season (still the hardest professional sport to make the playoffs)

* Increased attendance overall for MLB games

* Huge profitablility increase in the league

* Created the World Baseball Classic

Agreed, the man has made some mistakes in his tenure as well (Steriods, Tie All-Star game, refusing to respond to Pete Rose, etc) but his entire term has not been an "absolute joke" either.
