Severino ran all the way, and that probably helped.

I can remember as a kid, when it was getting dark (and the ball was well-used), some joker would pretend to pitch the ball but fake the throw, to see if the batter might swing at the non-pitch. You might get a few swings from the Orioles under those circumstances.
