The Barry Bonds watch

Guess how many IBB's Arod has this year? 2. And he is having a monster year. Bonds never gets pitched too. Those 4 years when Bonds hit 73 and after were maybe the best hitting years ever. Ive never seen anything or heard of anyone being that great of a hitter. To get walked so many times and still crush the ball is ridicilous. If a pitcher made a mistake, he made them pay EVERYTIME. Thats why I am a Bonds fan. He is an amazing hitter.

And with Bonds being an asshole. I dont give a crap. I dont care how he is as a person. He didnt kill no one or ever commit a crime. The media prys in his life everyday for the last 20 years. It would get old. Especially when they killed him early on when he struggled in the playoffs.

I don't like to see prestigious records in any sport being held by complete dickheads. And I'm sorry if that doesn't jive with your view or SG's view, but I can't help it.

I feel good knowing that the all time TD record is held by Marino and Favre will probably catch it. I feel good knowing that the all time points record for basketball is held by Kareem...who had a *****ly demeanor but is an overall good ambassador for the game of basketball. I feel good knowing that Jordan is the all time leader in ppg and Gretzky is the all time leader in scoring. Two class acts.

They're all, at their respective cores, good people. They're all good ambassadors to their sports.

Barry Bonds isn't a good guy, IMO and he's not a good ambassador to baseball. I don't think any parent would point to Barry Bonds and say "Yeah, you should grow up to be like him. That's how you should model yourself."

And it's not like the press turned him into this monster, he was an a-hole when he was in college.

The steroids thing, I'm over. Yeah, he cheated, "unknowlingly" and I can get over that, seeing as a ton of hitters and pitchers probably cheated in this era. I might not really like it, but whatever...

But I cringe at the thought that a colossal douchebag scumbucket like him will have one of the most prestigious records...probably the most prestigious record in sports history.

EDIT: And before someone comes in and goes "Well what about Ty Cobb? How do you feel about the fact that he's the all time batting average leader?"

I'd like to think we've evolved as a society since Ty Cobbs days. I don't think anyone here would really say they would "like" Ty Cobb as a person who was arguably a sociopath.

I'd like to think we've evolved as a society since Ty Cobb, but then I see more dickheads like Michael Vick and get even sicker to my stomach.

I hear what you're saying Moose, but do you at least respect him as a hitter? I mean, Baltimoreans adore Ray Lewis, who was involved in a double murder regardless whether he did it or not. Jamal Lewis jerseys were everywhere in town and he was convicted of a felony. Sort of along the same lines. Ty Cobb was a total jerk who had the all time hits record for years and was passed by one of the biggest jerks in sports, Pete Rose.

He's a great, great player, jerk or not.

EDIT: Saw your Cobb edit after I wrote my repsonse. Point taken though.

Yeah, I mean..how can you not respect him as a hitter? He's phenomenal.

I was at OPACY the day he hit #675. Raffy hit two that day, too. The buzz in the crowd when Bonds came to the plate was unlike anything I've ever heard/seen before.

Rose was a jerk, but at least you can say he played the game the right way.

I think Ray Lewis is a good person at his core, too. I think he's done a lot to repair his image and make a change for the better. I dunno much about Jamal Lewis, but I can tell you I wouldn't be wearing his jersey.

I was there that day too, and you're right, the buzz was incredible. Don't forget, Bonds was a sure fire Hall Of Famer before the steroids. I'm not excusing the steroid use at all, don't get me wrong, but a lot of players were using, they're just not as good as Bonds.

Ray Lewis has done a lot to repair his image, but while he was in prison and after admitting his role in the crime, we were quick to forgive, and his situation was far worse than Bonds. The point is that it's not that hard to root for someone based on atheltic ability regardless of what kind of person he is.

Yeah, he absolutely was a first ballot HoF.

See, but Lewis admitted it, he repaired it...he reflected on who he was as a person and decided to make some changes.

Bonds just seems to be determined to be a dickhead until the end. I don't see any remorse from Bonds in the way he's acted over his career.

Valid point, I do think Bonds has gotten better the past year or so. For a while there, he wasn't acknowledging the media at all. I'm curious to see how he reacts to the fans when he does break the record.

He does seem to be a bit better lately, but part of me thinks that he's saying to himself "It feels good to have these punks in the palm of my hand, finally."

I just don't think Bonds looks at any situation without thinking how he can benefit from it before anything else. I just think thats the way he is.

Can't disagree with you, he is getting better with the media and fans because he wants people to accept him easier as the all time Home Run leader. He is a selfish guy, no question, but it's just a lot easier to enjoy the fact that a great hitter is breaking the greatest record in sports and not dwell on the fact that he's a dickhead. There are jerks in every walk of life. But not every day can we talk about the Home Run record being broken.

Yeah, this is very true.

It'll be a spectacle, thats for sure.

That lousy hypocrite and so called commissioner Bud Selig better have his ass present for this.

If he doesn't, he should be made to quit immediately.

IMO Selig's biggest gaffe in this is his being so wishy-washy and non-committal.

Even as recently as this week, he's publicly saying that he "hasn't decided" if he will be in attendance when the record's broken.

That's absolutely pathetic and shameful.

Look Bud, either take a stand and stay away, or embrace the thing and join in the festivities. Either way I really don't give a rip. But for heaven's sake get your arse off the stinkin fence you spineless twerp.

Why do you guys really care if Bud will be there or not? Will that affect your enjoyment/anger while watching the record breaker?

I think this is one of the most overhyped media stories of the last year or so. Would fans care at all about this if the media wasn't shoving it down our throats. I say most would not.

Fans would care about it a lot more if they didn't dislike Bonds so much. I hate to say it, but I'm in Moose's group, wishing that something would happen with Barry's knee that would halt his career right now. I don't like feeling that way, and I would prefer to ignore the event entirely if the media would just let me.
