Grayson pitched 5 innings tonight, allowing 2 hits, 1 run, 6 strikeouts, 1 walk.

He did not start the 6th inning despite having only thrown 76 pitches.

That’s annoying.  If he can throw 89 pitches a few starts ago and 82 in his last start, he certainly should have been able to start the 6th.

We’re saving him for our pennant run.

The Rays perhaps are with Baz - hadn't seen any injury blurbs on him but looked at his Game Log after the quiet lately, and the last month and a half he has only pitched on 7/15 and 8/15.

I am curious to see how the org lands Rodriguez's year.   Will he get to October 3rd, some 100-ish pitch leeway in his final turns, both or neither?

Has anyone seen evidence that this type of tight rein on his pitch counts serves to reduce injury risk?

That would be the only reason to pitch him like this right?  Reducing injury risk?

We have Grayson Rodriguez following the same MLB Pitch Smart guidelines my team followed... though it was a 13/14 team.

Why do you think they are keeping a tight rein on him?  Gotta figure they have their reasons and there's something mathematical or scientific behind those reasons.

I think they are trying to avoid injury.

I don't think there is a magic formula to keep them healthy.

I don't think anyone, including Elias, thinks there is a magic formula.  I think they believe there is a formula which may increase the chances of keeping them healthy.

How would say the Elias formula is working out this year?

I haven't given it much thought.  Don't really know.  I put this back into your big category of what I call nit picking.  If you didn't have something to complain about you wouldn't be happy.  As for me, if Elias and company want to limit innings of pitchers and slow play promotions,  no biggy!

I think the way he is being handled is going to impact his availability when he reaches the majors.  I don't think that is a nit pick.
