And he did.

I was wondering...what is the point of assigning a guy to a lower minor league level for rehab?

I get having a major league player go to the minors for rehab.  The games up here "count" and the minors are for player development.

But what is the benefit of Diaz, or Baumann, rehabbing an injury at a Lowe minor league level before returning to the level be was at?

I’ve often wondered this myself.   Especially for hitters.

Get this guy up to the majors, lets see what he's got.  The Dodgers obviously got the best of the Manny trade, but it would be a plus if Diaz can stick in the majors, even as a 4th OF.  At least the O's didn't have to pay $30 million for Diaz like the Dodgers did.  I believe $15 mill went to Diaz and a $15 mill tax if my memory serves me right.

Did they?

They didn't win the WS that year and Manny walked at the end of the season.

I don't think they regret it but it's hard to call that a win from their position.

Yeah, I'm not sure who won that trade.  Right now I think it's a wash, they paid for a very short term rental, and he wasn't the difference in getting them a ring.  But the players we got haven't amounted to anything for us at the MLB level yet, so jury is still out.  Of course, we don't know the other deals that might have been out there to know if we passed up better deals in hindsight, but I doubt we will ever know the truth there.

I'm not sure if I'm crazy for thinking this but this seemed like an awful send to me. Diaz didn't even look like he was trying that hard to rush the throw and the runner was still out by 2 steps.

Who is he going to play over?  I know we’re banged up and still have Mancini, but I don’t see a clear opening for him right now. First, Diaz needs to show that he can be healthy. Then once we trade Mancini then that could open up a spot for him with Santander DH’ing some.

I like Diaz. We should get a look at him. Right now though there are guys that deserve looks over him. Even McKenna.

Yeah. Slow release. Dangerous throw. Would prefer it in the air from there or a slightly bigger hop. Not exactly a gun. Weird play all around.

I think there is space.   Diaz needs a few more weeks in AAA.   But if he does well he can replace Stewart who can be sent down.  Stewart has not done much with his chances in the majors this year.  And McKenna appears to still need some time at AAA.

An outfield of Mullins, Santander, Hays and Diaz in mid July with Mancini at DH/1B and Mountcastle at 1B/DH would be good.    One guy can get rest from the heat each day. Some depth would help this team.

I like Diaz, but the question mark with him. Can he stay healthy for the whole season?
