There’s some power in that bat. He’s exactly the type of player we should be giving MLB ABs to at 2B and 3B this year. Why not?

If he hits well for a couple of weeks I can see him getting called up.  He already has over a year in AAA.     I could see Leyba up; Wilkerson optioned.

Why is this guy not our everyday 2B right now?  He’s basically played a full season in AAA, albeit PCL, but come on.

125 GP 557PA 26HR 101RBI 39Doubles

83/35 SO/BB .916 OPS

I get the idea that we were letting him get his confidence back, and possibly work on some things with a new organization, but stick him at 2B for a month+ and see what happens.

Exactly. But the reason is because the goal isn't to play good baseball. Green is at stake (you would hope Elias would take him being he is a generational talent possibly).

Just read up on this guy's history a bit more.  Really interesting case.

Hit well at the AAA level in 2019 for Arizona (.870 OPS).  Arizona called him UP to the majors, and he hit .807 although in only 30 PA so it doesn't seem like he started much.

Then he loses the entire 2020 season because he failed a PED test.  Oops.

Arizona tries him out again at the MLB level this year and he is 0 for his first 22, gets DFA'd.   In very limited time in AAA this year across both teams he has absolutely crushed it.

So who knows, Elias may have stumbled onto something here.

So are they playing him at literally every position?  In my experience that usually means that the team doesnt really trust you at any position.

In this case, however, it more reflects the organization's emphasis on versatility with several of its minor leaguers (Vavra, Henderson, Westburg, others). Whether that's the right approach or not is another discussion, but I don't believe it's because the team doesn't trust him at a particular position.

The PED suspension is worrying. It was a big boy steroid (Boldenone). Not just some “GNC” type stuff. So that explains why he missed all of 2020.

Boldenone has been around for almost 70 years. In fact, with the exception of steroids developed at BALCO such as THG, any anabolic steroid you hear about in a failed test has been around for 50 years or more. That is why the belief that baseball players discovered them all of the sudden in the late ‘90s strains credulity.

Being around so long also means that the scientific community has had plenty of time to develop tests that can easily detect boldenone. Furthermore, it can be detected for monthsafter a person has stopped taking it. Anecdotally, I have read about people who tested positive for it as many as 18 months after discontinuation. That is what I meant about the IQ test comment.
