The reason the Orioles aren't still in the NL is that in 1899 Ned Hanlon thought he could make more money in Brooklyn so he bought part of the Brooklyn team while he still owned most of the Orioles, and then transferred multiple Hall of Famers to Brooklyn and told Baltimore sucks to be you, I need to make a buck.

I think a lot of things were easier to believe in the 1950s.

MLB has officially postponed the first week of exhibition games, which were to begin next Saturday the 26th (the Orioles were to host the Yankees in Sarasota that day).

The games from Feb 26 through Mar 4 are postponed, so the schedule is now slated to begin on Saturday, March 5.  The Orioles are scheduled to play a night game vs the Braves in North Point on the 5th, then have the Rays at home in Sarasota on Sunday the 6th.

Well, I’m on my way to Florida on the 27th, returning March 7.   Had hoped to catch an O’s game or three while I was there, but realized some time ago that it wasn’t very likely to happen.   Luckily I wasn’t going down mostly for baseball this time anyway.

I am curious to see the press roll-out of the eventual agreement.    And what lead time they will give front offices before the Rule V draft.    Looking forward to the resuscitation of the candidate threads on Rays catcher Blake Hunt, and whatever live arms have been looking good in the early days of minor league camps.

Who knows if Rule V will still be part of the next CBA in the same format.  And even if so when it takes place.  Assume some of these players will already be in camp with their current team.s

Sure everything is subject to change, but to the extent MLB and the MLBPA are posturing over almost everything, I don't think either party objects to the Rule V, which has served its basic purpose for many CBAs, or that it will be a topic in the important upcoming bargaining sessions.

I'm sure Elias would appreciate a few innings of pitch data from every live arm in Grapefruit/Cactus ballparks with decent measuring tools, and that clubs will be hiding the hot ones if the Rule V re-schedule is pretty quick.

I'm not really upset at the lockout itself, this stuff happens from time to time no matter what the sport is.  I've said before I am not taking this personally as I know the owners and players don't care about the fans (me) past whatever we can cough up for a ticket and whatever officially licensed gear we decide to purchase.  It is a strictly transactional relationship.

The thing that bugs me about this situation is that they had oh, I dunno, all the time after the World Series was over through November and December and didn't do a damn thing.  Now it's some last minute shenanigans that makes them look worse.

I'll be back whenever they decide to stop playing patty cake with each other.  I'm not one of those fans that is looking to make my fandom into martyrdom, that's just silly.  I'm just pissed that they didn't start these negotiations the second they were able to.  Instead they stood across the room from each other like awkward middle schoolers at their first dance.

Question: Who picks the 8 players that make up the players bargaining group?

I think I saw a list of the eight and by my count, five were BIG bucks players (Max Scherzer) and the other three I think have a GOOD living (Jason Castro: 11 yrs 47.7 mil).

Who is fighting for the first and second year players? Who is fighting for the T J McFarlands of the world ??

Maybe if this type of players were in the bargaining group, we may be closer to a settlement.
