You must have not been paying attention during July and August of 2007 when Erik Bedard went 7-0 over 9 starts in one of the most dominant stretches by any Orioles pitcher ever. His complete game shutout against the Rangers striking out 15 is easily a top 5-10 Orioles start of all time.

Bedard at his best looked like the best pitcher in baseball

The other obvious post-Mussina game that stands out is Means’  2021 12-strikeout no-hitter that would have been a perfect game if Severino hadn’t let a strike three go between his legs.   As Jim Palmer pointed out last night, if Rutschman had been catching, no way that pitch gets past him.

There was also a start where Daniel Cabrera threw a one hitter against the Yankees with the one hit being a Cano 2 out single in the 9th.

That was good, but not in the class of Bedard’s or Means’ games, because Cabrera only struck out 5 in that game.

Bedard was filthy when he figured it out.

Bradish has a nasty curve. Different shape than Bedard’s but hopefully it can be just as lethal.

It is amazing the turnaround he has had since coming back from the injury.

I do worry that he seems to be doing it with just 2 pitches though.

A lot of his stat cast numbers are still poor although I don’t know what impact his first half had on those.  Still, he didn’t throw that much before the injury and you would figure a lot of things would have evened out by now if there were vast improvements there.

Now that Hyde's been stretching them out the last few days maybe we'll see another Jerry Walker 16-inning shutout at the age of 20.  😁😬

For reference, Walker's last good major league season was at the age of 20. Yea, that year.  Up through the 16-inning start he had a career ERA of 2.91.  From then on it was about 5.00. You can decide if it was a coincidence.

His change up looks like it should be used as a 2 seam FB. He doesn’t have enough velocity difference between it and his FB to be effective as a change up, but it does seem to have some good downward movement and in on RH hitters.

The FB and Slider are really good though. He should be able to hang in as a backend SP with just those two pitches.

Ehh, we will see.  It’s tough to be a good starter with 2 pitches.  Now, to get a back end guy, I guess you only need to have a high 4s/low 5s ERA but at that point, I may prefer him to be a reliever where I think he could be dominant.

I have this concern as well.  Toronto seems to have him figured out to a degree.

My tired eyes aren't what they used to be. It looks like the no hitters by Phoebus and Wilhelm are on there, but not Palmer's?

I was hoping you’d do this.  It’s amazing how Mussina dominates that list, with 4 of the top 10 and 9 of the top 25.   It’s like he’s a Hall of Fame pitcher or something!  I was somewhat surprised to see Big Ben on the list four times.  Bedard is the only other pitcher on there twice.
