Is Tyler Wells a long term answer in the starting rotation? that's the question was have to ask ourselves and while the 3.71 ERA through his first 10 starts this year is pretty good, let's look at the numbers a little closer and see if it's done with mirrors or sustainable success.
The first thing we have to remember is that Wells is almost 28 years old (August). I know we all think of him as being so young because he was rookie last year and a rule 5 pick, but Wells is older than Zimmerman
everybody on this board would love it and thats why it would take more than mounty, who is not loved on this board.
Look at it like this, if we were Seattle with all their pitching and how much value it has, why would they trade Castillo who would our #1 or 2 at worse for RM
So why does it matter if he waits?
Granted, I have legitimately zero idea of what the Orioles FO is working on - same as everyone else here. Maybe they have a lot of irons in the fire. Maybe they have none! No idea.
But the concept on this message board - that they're clearly not acting fast enough and it's the end of the world - is hilariously misplaced. Embarrassing, even.
If they haven't added anyone beyond O'Neill and Sanchez come Spring Training...by all means, file your complaints. They will be fair and well-warranted.
But killing them now for things we can't even begin to know? Jesus. Relax a little.
I don't think high-end players give two hoots where they play (purely location wise), as they make an incredible amount of money and can keep their primary residence wherever they would like.
There are certainly exceptions, but by the time a guy is signing a high-end, lucrative contract, he has a wife, at least one kid, and a lot of assets. Where they play their home game is just one small piece of the puzzle.
I would agree that Seattle is very capable of getting more than Mountcastle for Castillo. So it becomes a dance of what can the O's throw in the pot to make the deal worthwhile. Definitely a lead worth pursuing, and I imagine the O's have inquired.
I’d rather trade Mountcastle than Westburg, who is currently irreplaceable. We have a potentially very very bad third baseman in Mayo, and…that’s it. First basemen are plentiful, especially with career offense like MC’s, a career 114 ops+, which is not outstanding for a 1B.
