The Mark Teixeira Watch part II

Ok, in an attempt to make things easy for people to keep up, I'm locking the original thread and start up a part two.

Here's where we're at:

1) Most media outlets are saying the O's are no longer in the Teixeira sweepstakes.

2) Bigbird's contact agrees and says he's heading to Boston

3) Gammons says it's between the Nationals and Red Sox.

4) Belkast remains confident the Orioles are still in it despite all the evidence to the contrary

5) Generally people believe if the Orioles offered over $20 million that they made a good faith offer, and if Texeira signs elsewhere and the offer did not blow away the Orioles offer, than Tex never really wanted to come back and be a local hero anyway.

6) If Tex signs with the Red Sox, most people will despise him and boo him lustfully when he comes into town. But most agree that they will be overshadowed by the Red Sox fans who take over the Yard anyways.

7) Most people agree this will have major consequences for the Orioles in the PR department if they can't bring Tex back and especially if he goes to the Red Sox or the Nationals.

What I don't understand is ESPN never covered the Rays until they did well, but at least they didn't hate them and put down their team as much. To the Orioles, it's liek they are the only team that ESPN really just does not like/have no respect for. And I think its the latter, and unfortunately I think that until Peter is out of the picture, that isn't going to change.

What I don't understand is ESPN never covered the Rays until they did well, but at least they didn't hate them and put down their team as much. To the Orioles, it's liek they are the only team that ESPN really just does not like/have no respect for. And I think its the latter, and unfortunately I think that until Peter is out of the picture, that isn't going to change.

This is such a homer perspective. How much time should they devote to a team that last had a winning season when Bill Clinton was president and the Dow Jones hit 7000 for the first time. Think about this for a minute. What were you doing in 1997?

The more I think about it, the more I hope that if he doesn't sign with us, he signs in D.C. Yeah, it'll suck and yeah the PR will be awful... but at least it'll make me feel like he's sticking it to the national media in some way.
