He needs innings and the minor league season ends a week before the MLB season.

If he truly is going to be penciled into the Opening Day roster there is no harm in getting his feet wet in September/October to increase the odds that he gets over any MLB jitters and is slightly more likely to finish top 3 in the Rookie of the Year race in 2023 to get the O's another draft pick.

If he looks good in rehab, it would be pretty dumb to have him on the Opening Day roster and not have him get his feet wet in September/October. If they don't bring him up this year (and he looks good in rehab) I would expect them to play the service time game in April and hope he doesn't finish top 2 in ROY and get a full season of service time anyway.

He was supposed to be on the roster 3 months ago.  If they play the service time game with him, almost a year later, that’s a giant slap in the face and probably wouldn’t sit well with him and his agent.

If by some miracle he pitches for us at the end of this season/playoffs then he’s in the OD rotation. If not, then I think there is a 100% we wait the 15 days next year and gain an extra year of control.

Yeah, that is my instinct as well. Which is why I expect to see him in September and hope that he finishes top 3 in the 2023 Rookie of the Year race to get us a draft pick!

It is no sure thing that they would gain the extra year of control.

I think the chances are better than 50/50 that Adley finishes second in the Rookie of the Year race and gets a full year of service time this season despite not coming up until late May.

They might be better off going for the extra draft pick by putting him on the Opening Day roster. Perhaps he and Gunnar  Henderson could both be on the Opening Day roster, both finish top 3 in the Rookie of the Year race, and get the O's two extra draft picks.

Reading the tea leaves of Club media, more than any details in the piece is the simple fact that Roch got to put it out.

Hoping for Bowie Ringer return in a few weeks, then obviously game-to-game.

There might be time to get him 1-2 starts in Baltimore, but only if we’re not in contention or run into injuries.

They’re going to make him eligible for the playoffs. Book it.

That would be a good way to ruin a career. Bring in a young pitcher that hasn't pitched in the big leagues and hasn't pitched in a live game for over a year and throw him into the pressure of a playoff game where every pitch can be scrutinized and every mistake magnified and talked about for years. That seems like a great way to ruin a guy.

Didn't he last pitch in June? I kind of doubt we actually make the playoffs, but rushing prospects does not seem to by Elias's MO. If they say Grayson is ready, let it rip.

The 40-man move would have to accelerate to before August 31 to keep that door open, right?    Before your post it hadn't occurred to me that could be an earlier deadline forcing Elias to reveal his intentions somewhat.

I believe I read that the FCL ends this week, but as I get older I am less sure of myself and recollection is worse.   Hopefully I am wrong.  Even if there is no FCL they will use those same players in a simulated game I am sure.
