He seems a little underrated given all the other performances happening around him. He’s been healthy all year. Steady. Switch hits. 125 OPS+. Only 10 points off his “career year” in the shortened 2020 season. He could end up somewhere around 27/90. That’s pretty solid.

And he’s been healthy so far.  Perfect time to trade him.

I just don’t think we can until Cowser. We need his Lefty bat. I know he’s a SH, but we’re too RH right now.

I agree.

We keep talking about a replacement for Mancini - we have him in-house.

Santander being our regular DH would probably bring up his numbers by not being on the field.

Santander has separated himself from our other core players this year (Hays, Stowers, Mountcastle, and Mullins) as our best overall hitter.

I am in no rush to move him.

He's not the best overall hitter on the team.

That's one of the oddest takes I've ever seen here on the Hangout.

Rutschman is obviously on another level and has only been up since midseason.

You disagree that he’s the best bat of the players I mentioned?

I rather move Hays or Mountcastle who are limited offensive players IMO. Hays is more expendable than he was before due to the number of athletic outfielders coming up in the system.

You would rather move the players who won’t bring us much back?

I don't think he's "separated" himself from the group.

He's a career 105 OPS+ guy that is currently at 125 OPS+.

Mullins is a career 111 OPS+ guy that is currently at 109 OPS+

Hays is a career 106 OPS+ guy that is currently at 110 OPS+

Mountcastle is a career 114 OPS+ guy that is currently at 107 OPS+.

He's the best of the lot right now.  I wouldn't take a bet that he puts up the best numbers next season.

A lot of these guys fluctuate up and down.  Santander is the best of the hitters you mentioned at the moment.

They do fluctuate, but I feel Santander has the best combination of power and plate discipline of the four.  I've always preferred him at the plate to Hays specifically, when healthy.

He obviously wasn't right last year due to the injuries.  He was our best hitter in 2020.

We have a sample size larger than just 2022.

Do I think he is more valuable than Mullins?  Nope.  But as a bat, I like what he brings compared to the rest of the group that he's being evaluated against if we are going to consider trades.

A typical player sees a 14 point drop in wOBA when DHing compared to when they're playing in the field.  Santander has only DH'd about 200 PAs so far in his career, so we don't have much to go on.  So far he hasn't shown much difference.  But I wouldn't count on his numbers getting better if he was relieved of defensive responsibilities.
