Raul Rangel 2022

I really liked what Raul Rangel did in the FCL last year and have him pegged as a breakout candidate this year a la Jean Pinto last season.  

He got knocked around a bit in his first outing at Delmarva but had a great three inning start tonight, allowing an unearned run on one hit and one walk while striking out six.   

Keep an eye on this kid.

Rangel and Chace.   Two teenagers looking good early on.    Oriole minor league pitchers certainly know how to rack up strikeouts.

Both Chace and Rangel along with Luis Ortiz signed in July 2019.  Chance and Rangel got somewhere between $150,000 and $200,000

Ortiz got the biggest bonus, $400,000 but he struggled last year in Florida.  I assume he'll be back in Florida.

All 3 were high profile signees at the time.

Orioles haven't had a high profile pitcher signee since that class.  They choose to spend on hitters.  Same way they run their draft.

Wow, 4 steals allowed between he and Mantecon despite the limited amount of base runners in those 3 innings.  One of them did reach via K and wild pitch and another by fielding error.

I noticed that Rangel is now listed on the IL. Hopefully nothing serious and might explain his uneven start to the season.

Yeah, someting wasn't right there. It's never a good sign for a young pitcher to pitch poorly then go on the IL though.

No, but it's also not necessarily an arm injury.

You're right.  Could be his shoulder.  Or an oblique.  Or thoracic outlet syndrome.  Or a hamstring...

It certainly could be some type of ankle/leg injury that they thought he could pitch through or that he didn't mention right away. His first start was not good, then 3 strong innings,  then another clunker.  Could be anything but I'll go 50/50 on arm injury vs. Something groin or leg related.

Reportedly he was only throwing 83-84 mph and having trouble finding the strike zone when he was yanked from his last outing.   Unfortunately, sounds serious.

Rangel is back in action today, starting for the FCL Orioles.   Glad to see that, apparently, his injury was nothing serious.

Good news.   I hope he makes it back to Delmarva soon.

The good news.  He went 1.2 IP and struck out 2.  The bad news.  He only went 1.2 IP and walked 2 and hit 2 batters.   Hopefully, just rust.

The second inning was pretty comical.

The third pitcher of the game also managed to allow 2 runs without yielding a hit.  So far the Braves have 4 runs on 1 hit in this game.

Rangel threw two innings in the FCL today, allowing 1 run.
