The Philadelphia Phillies signed veteran hurler Jamie Moyer to a two-year contract, senior vice president and general manager Ruben Amaro, Jr. announced Monday.

No word yet on the money.

2007 was a bit of a down year for Moyer, but he bounced back in 2008. His FIP suggests that some of the difference was just luck, but his innings pitched have only slipped slightly (210 IP in 2006, 199 IP in 2007, 196 IP in 2008), so he might still have a couple decent seasons left in the tank.

The man is a freak of nature. How he is able to log those kinds of innings in his mid-40's is astonishing.

I think it's a real smart move. The guy seems to just keep on truckin' and is clearly a fan favorite here now. This comes on the heels of their signing of Chan Ho Park, so I think they'll be going into 2009 with a better rotation than 2008. (Though I've heard some speculation still that Park is destined for bullpen duty).
