I can't believe he said this:

"We have indicated before that we have flexibility," Orioles president Andy MacPhail said today. "I don't think anyone expects [Teixeira's agent Scott Boras] to lean over and accept the first proposal."

McPhail getting a little racy. :laughlol:

I think "lean" has a very different connotation than "bend" in this context.

Well, that pretty much guarantees that the Os are not within hours of reaching an agreement with him, and likely that this will stretch out for another week.

Didn't the Bedard deal happen shortly after McPhail came out and said things were still being discussed and there was no deal yet?

McPhail wouldn't say this kind of a thing if the numbers that he was hearing from Boras were so ridiculous that he thought they could not compete. You didn't hear him saying we were still in it for Burnett, e.g.

Ladies and gentleman you are watching a shrewd negotiator. A man that doesn't hesitate to take it slow, doesn't want to show too much interest, and is not afraid to walk away from the table. If we do get Tex, I will guarantee you that Andy got him for as cheap as the Orioles could have gotten him. And for that we should all be thankful.
