Look at it from the other teams perspectives, and then see how you feel.

If you're a Sox fan, this has probably been your thought process over the past few days:

"Ok, it's just against the O's and Nats... put it in the bag." Followed by, "Good, we made an offer... it's over." Then probably, "Uh, hold up, he hasn't signed with us yet? Why is he taking so long... I'm beginning to worry."

Lets say you are a Nats fan:

"It's all about money with Boras, and nobody will outbid us." Followed by, "Ok, our offer is still the biggest, welcome to DC Tex." And now it's probably, "Ok, wait, maybe it ISN'T all about money??????"

Now us Orioles fans:

"Tex coming home to his favorite team? Put it on the board." Which then prompted, "Uh, he was supposed to be at the game and wasn't -- WE'RE OUT!?!?!?!" And we're currently at "It was supposedly close yesterday, and now it's too quiet... I'm getting pessimistic...."

There you have it. Try looking at it that way. The fact that 3 different groups of fans are all looking at it with probably the same pessimism in itself is a reason for optimism...:D

I just find this to be funny

The Orioles have resisted upgrading their initial offer, believed to be seven years and about $150 million.

Unless AM has come out and said that the Orioles will not upgrade their offer, this is just pure speculaion.

The quote was from the MLB.com article posted in this thread earlier.

I will say one thing. If we miss on Tex, I think the decision to draft Matusz over Smoak is really going to come back to bite us in the @$$

Well, look at it this way - if we needed to get one of those resources, matured, its a heck of a lot easier to find an average 1B than it is to find a middle of the rotation starter. A LOT cheaper, too.

The O"s office does things there way.

I guess the way I try and stay optimistic, is to look at it this way. If the Nats and Red Sox offer was that much better, Tex would have had a press conference already. It seems that they are holding it up, maybe giving the Orioles every chance to come up with an acceptable deal. That's what I'm hoping anyhow.

If not us, I hope the Angels get him it would disgust me to see the Nationals get him, because you can't convince me they have the economics to get him, and not us. I don't want the Red Sox to get him because, well Red Sox nation is the most assanine group of fans I've ever come across.

I'm still optimistic. I just think the negotiations are probably at the point where one party is going to have to blink first. Angelos and AM will try to hold out as long as possible so they don't have to give Tex an extra year/million/opt-out, while Boras will continue shopping Tex to put the pressure on the O's.

The problem with this scenario is that the O's aren't done with their offseason plans yet, and some of the pitching moves are likely contingent upon whether or not Tex is signed (i.e.-Sheets, possibly Kawakami). To bring in a poker analogy, I just think that Boras has more chips than PGA and AM do, even though they're great players themselves.

I have been going over all the information that I have received from my guy,

as well as media reports, as well as pm's with other insiders, as well as past information especially from last year. I think that I am going to change my stance. I am less optimistic in the whole Tex sweepstakes.

Don't get me wrong I want the guy. I think our organization needs the guy. I am constantly being told that we will get the guy. But after reviewing everything, something is telling me that maybe this isn't a sure thing. Maybe I am being fed some wrong information. I don't know.

I have been extremely excited and optimistic about Tex. This is based on what I have heard but the more I think about it, I am getting excited because I am a fan that wants to see this happen.

The reality check is hitting me while I was reviewing everything. This is reality: I was burned before. I have sometimes not taking my own advice of taking things with a grain of salt when hearing things from my guy. Things change really fast in baseball. I think things get said privately as well as to the media that is in fact a game in itself. I have strong suspicion from the past that some of the information I was receiving was false. I do not know that to be the case with the information I have received about Tex. I do know, based on my beliefs it could be.

So, with that said, I want to make perfectly clear to you all that I don't know how I am feeling about Tex right now. I want to be very optimistic still, but there has also been lessons learned in the past. So lets just say I have guarded optimism now.

Sorry about the long post. I just felt that I neeeded to share what I was thinking, and why I was thinking it. Nothing was said for me to change my stance. Previous lessons are just playing a factor. Hopefully my guy is right and Tex will be an Oriole, but I will take his information with a grain of salt.

    • I admire the fact that you took the high road by starting this thread.   And if I’d been in a handshake line, I’d have shaken their hands and said congratulations, because that’s the classy and sportsmanlike thing to do.  But in my heart, I would have been cursing myself for playing so poorly.   Earlier in the year, when the O’s and Yankees were on top of their game, I had a little argument with @HowAboutThat.   I said if the O’s won 105 games (which they were on pace to do at that point) but lost the division to the Yankees, I wouldn’t be disappointed with our regular season. He disagreed, saying the goal was to win the division and anything less would be a disappointment no matter what.  Well, it academic now.  We didn’t win 105 games.  We didn’t win 100, or 95.   We may or may not win 90, depending on how the weekend goes.   And for the record, I didn’t expect we’d win 105, even when we were on pace to do so.   But I expected a lot more wins than we will and up with.   If we’d played well but the Yankees just outplayed us, I’d be congratulating them, but my dominant feeling right now is disappointment with how we’ve played.   Oh well.  Lick our wounds, pick ourselves up, and on to the playoffs, where I hope some of that disappointment can be erased and superseded.
    • How often is a good bullpen built any other way? The Guardians have the best bullpen and their key pieces are: - Emmanuel Clase: acquired through the Corey Kluber trade before he had proven himself. He was never a top prospect: MLB had him as Cleveland's 21st best prospect in 2020, Fangraphs had him as their 15th best. https://www.mlb.com/prospects/2020/guardians/ https://blogs.fangraphs.com/top-46-prospects-cleveland-indians/ - Cade Smith: rookie with a 4.65 ERA in AAA last year. 1.94 ERA this year. Fangraphs had him as the team's 27th best prospect coming into the year. - Hunter Gaddis: 4.50 ERA in MLB and 6.05 ERA in AAA last year. Converted to a reliever with a 1.59 ERA this year. - Tim Herrin: 5.53 ERA last year. 1.95 ERA this year. The Orioles had one of the best bullpens in 2022 and it was anchored by Jorge Lopez, Felix Bautista, Cionel Perez, all of whom you could count as dumpster diving.
    • And the great Daniel Jones. Lol. Minshew has gotten them in back to back years. Watson got them last year after being down 31-17 and of course the Steelers got them last year after being down double digits. There is more but it escapes me.
    • And Buffalo is one of the many teams that they failed to finished against the last few years that this has been going on. 2 years ago they blew a 20- 3 to them. Crazy to think we are still talking about this team's troubles with finishing games.
    • And the other thing is I had no false illusions of catching the Yankees but after winning the first 2 I was really hoping they somehow could had swept them and avoided the Yankees clinching the division at their expense.  That game tonight  was reminiscent of the past few months.  Bad BP, bad hitting.
    • Well we can talk about pitching matchups all we want but this team has shown time and again offensively they can make anyone's pitcher look great and this BP can make any team's offense look great. Now I  know everyone thinks I'm the most negative person on this board and maybe I am but I also have said many times the Orioles are really good at avoiding sweeps and I think once again they will  prove this and get at least one win in this series to lock up the 4 seed.
    • This right here. I agree with Frobby.  Baltimore lost it more than NY won it.
