Teixeira Watch: Part VIII- Decisions, Decisions

I wonder if Belkast's source is more or less optimistic today than he was previously.

To be fair, neither Belkast's source nor ANY of the Front Offices involved here KNOW all that much. They know what Boras is telling them...they know about the speculation/Leaks in the media...they know what others teams GM's might feel about what's going on...and they know what they themselves are reading from meeting with Boras and Tex.

They don't know which team is in, which is out and how much any of those teams actually bid. That's what, I have come to believe, prompted John Henry's bizarre email last night. The Sox think Boras is bluffing about the contract proposal he claims to have so they called him on it.

What may be happening today is that Boras is going back to the teams Tex is most interested in and getting their best and final. But think about this for a moment. If you are Angelos, and you think the Sox and Yankees are out...or at least don't appear to be offering a $200m package...and the Angels reportedly are lower than the Sox, then don't you seriously re-consider making the "WOW," offer if your only real competition are the Nats?

It's possible the Red Sox offer is still the best package on the table when you consider location (East Coast), money (likely comparable to other top bidders), prospects of going to the World Series this year etc, etc. Maybe, Boras ends up going back to the Sox with an offer to basically accept their proposal BUT with an improved offer to Varitek as a side agreement.

Or, maybe Angelos says, "screw it," and does present a KILLER contract offer to take the deal down. Either way, boys and girls, it seems this drama seems to be in it's final act.

It will be the Nats or the Red Sox with Tex's final decision coming down to picking the most money (Nats) or winning right away with a storied franchise (Red Sox). Tex is eliminating teams and I think today we will hear the Orioles are out of it because of money reasons most of all. I hope I am wrong as I always say, but the Orioles give no reason for me not to be because of the past 11 years. Either way the madness can end soon and we can start complaining about the FO, but maybe we can get lucky for once and we will be celebrating!

I knew this was coming. LOL

I think this version is funnier (at least to those who watch The Soup).

Well Belkast said we should get an answer today...either we sign him(or close to signing him) or drop out of it.

Sounds to me that is a "we are tired of waiting, here is our best offer, take it or leave it" type thing.

Which actually is surprising seeing as how long AM let things drag out last year..figure he would be more patient.

Yep. Here's the WOW offer. Please let us know if that will do it. It's all we got.

Roch says that Boras is busy again...

I left another message for Boras. I was told he's traveling again and in meetings. Hopefully, I'll have more later. And I'll contact team president Andy MacPhail, who will be thrilled to hear from me again. Bet he can't wait for the season to start so he has some peace.

A poster said that Tex is an Oriole and it will be made public in about an hour. Probably BS, but you never know.

Yeah, here's the actual thread: As usual, a couple shots in at the OH (already) and sure to be more.

You know... people can bash us for playing this "game" with our insiders, but I'll take that every time over the tripe that often dominates at the unmoderated boards. Just sayin'....

    • Yeah, basically this, that Westburg's underlying numbers (EV, barrel %, xwOBA) seem to point at this being pretty real, or at least that there's nothing 'undeserved / lucky' about this hot streak, if it's just that.
    • The problem with a Cowser/Kjerstad/Stowers/Bradfield outfield roster is there are no right handers to handle LHP. I don't think and completely left handed outfield is the destination for an organization the values versatility.
    • Looks maybe concussion related.
    • How can you not be romantic about baseball? This seems slightly poetic. I enjoyed reading, and correlated your experience in the stands back to what I watch in Game 1 on MASN.  It was also pretty cool to hear Jim Palmer give you a shout out in Game 2 of the series on Live TV.
    • I am not worried.  It just doesn’t remotely meet the eye test.  He has been great in the field . I can think of at least 3 outstanding plays he has made and not any that I thought he should have gotten but didn’t. Meanwhile Holliday is 3 OAA and I can’t think of an outstanding play and can think of a number I thought he should have made.
    • Nicely stated Roy. Every since I was 9 years old and saw the O's vs. the Tokyo Giants in Tokyo in 1971, I've been infected with the Orange/Black virus. There is no cure and I don't want one. You and I sat at the lunch table with Jim Palmer at the 1970 World Series Champs reunion, and its still one of my enduring baseball memories. You said I looked like Carlton Fisk! I was at all 3 games in this Angels series, right behind the O's dugout. I got to see all our boys, and just simply love to watch this team play. And in true baseball fashion, the one game on paper we should have dominated (GRod vs. 8+ ERA Channing), we end up down 7-0 and lose. But watching Gunnar's homers, his electric triple, and he made a fantastic play today on a ball that went under Westburg's glove, Adley do Adley things, Cowser, holy crap. Kimbrel v. Trout with bases loaded, bottom of 9th, 2 outs, down by 2? That was fun. Next game Trout bats leadoff and torches a GRod fastball for a homer to the opposite field.  An observation.... If you didn't know anything about the team, and you only watched game 1 batting practice, you'd think Cowser and O'Hearn were the studs of the team. Mountcastle was taking BP with the reserves and he put on a show as well.  Home after 3 straight days watching this O's team, so jealous of the Balt fans in Balt that get to see the team with regularity. It's a special bunch.
