The AL East is always tough, but it’s particularly strong so far this year, playing .614 ball against the rest of MLB.

Vs. AL Central: 45-38 (.542)

Vs. AL West: 52-27 (.658)

Vs. NL: 19-8 (.704)

Total outside the division: 116-73 (.614)

The Orioles, for what it’s worth, are 11-16 (.407) in the division, 15-19 (.441) outside the division.

Will be something else if all 3 WC’s come from the division.

I think NYY, TB and Toronto are all going to postseason. Boston has flaws but can hit. Some pitching issues with health issues cropping up. Their pen has issues.

CWS still keep playing inconsistent. The Angels collapsed. Seattle has yet to get going.

A very good chance it happens.

The run differential expression of same...all divisional games net to zero of course.

ALE, +185

NLW, +89

NLE, +59

ALW, -35

NLC, -139

ALC, -159

Bad White Sox week...maybe they will play at the AL East's 4th place team level all year.

I figure the Yankees big edge on Jays in Orioles Games some of what TOR looking at as they see if they can make a charge.    Regular plug the last three ALE division champions have gone 16-3, 17-2 and 18-1 against BAL.

To Tony's general point about the core's tolerance for losing, psychobabble wise I've always figured Adley-Grayson would become the alpha dogs fast (probably still too soon for Rutschman to get in guys faces about baserunning...I hope Hyder is behind closed doors).    We'll see how first touches go...certainly imagine this will be by far the worst pitching group Adley ever battles Vlad for a summer with.

It would be but it would probably mean those 3 wild card teams are really beating up on that last place club.

162 games a year. They play the Orioles 19 games, 143 vs everyone else including 57 vs the other 3 playoff teams.

Their strength of schedule is much tougher.

    • Agreed Roy. I saw the same thing. I really think he's getting close to a breakout. But to do that, this team needs to show they believe in him and let him play regularly. But they won't. He needs steady ABs against MLB pitchers to improve. If they give him those I think he'll be a solid contributor.
    • That's true but in fairness he did drive in two runs by advancing runners in Thursday's game-something current Orioles seem incapable of. Elias could not have foreseen the injuries, some guys just need an opportunity and he wasn't getting it in Baltimore.
    • Way too many black holes in the lineup right now. I saw  twitter post yesterday comparing the lineup from late June to one last night.  It’s night and day. So many big losses, underperforming guys and just players who shouldn’t be playing either at all or as much as they are. Its just a terrible combination right now.
    • 6-7. The problem is we are playing actual Major League teams the rest of the year.
    • Pitching hasn't been the issue. Other than say Povich, there are a lot of silver linings there. Hitting on the other hand, beyond Henderson, has been nightmarish and trying to find a silver lining is kind of challenging at the moment.
    • Feels like getting no hit for 26 outs against the mediocre Tigers (just after getting walked off to lose a series to the Sox) could be the "hitting bottom" moment of the season. Silver linings are badly needed.  Last night Adley had two CS's. I believe both throws were bouncers but had enough on them to beat the runners. When was the last time we had two CS's? Appears the Tigers think they have something on us and plan to run. See if that continues.  Overlooked in the Boston game, Kremer went 7 innings for the first time since April. That's 5 of 6 starts with 6 IP or more. I'm starting to feel more comfortable with him as the #3 if Grayson can't make it back (or even if he does).  Can we talk about how good Cano has been? 1.35 ERA in July, 2.31 in August. Always with the toughest matchups/highest leverage outs.  Eflin of course has been tremendous.  It's not a lot but it's something.
