Does TT Bowens deserve some love?

TT Bowens was one of our 2020 undrafted free agents, out of that baseball powerhouse Central Connecticut State University.   He did not start 2021 with a full season club, but got sent to Delmarva when his fellow undrafted FA, JD Mundy, was promoted to Aberdeen.   There, Bowens was kind of mediocre, .237/.320/.466 in 266 PA.   He got promoted to Aberdeen anyway and held his own there, .259/.325/.446 in 123 PA.

This year, Bowens returned to Aberdeen and has been one of the best hitters on the team, .275/.409/.443 in 149 PA.  Among players with at least 150 PA, he leads the team in OBP, SLG and OPS.  However, at age 24, he’s a bit old to be in hi A.

He’s a big guy, listed at 6’4”, 235.   He mostly plays 1B but has seen time at LF and 3B too.

I don’t really see him as a likely major league prospect given his age and so-so power for a 1B, but he’s done enough this year to earn a little thread love.  So, here it is.

Old for the level and .400 BABIP screams that he's just a Hot Organizational Guy (HOG) to me.

We've seen HOGs like JD Mundy, Mason McCoy, and Toby Welk fade into obscurity once they get above A ball in recent years. Bowens will very likely do the same.

As an expert stat-line scouter, a guy needs to be at an age-appropriate level, have good BB/K numbers, and a reasonable BABIP in order for me to believe a great slash line is worth something.

Guys like Bowens, Mundy, and Teter need to be better than good considering they are older and bat first players.   We see that Mundy has degraded with each step up the ladder.   Bowens has done a better job of controlling the strike zone but where's the power?

You guys should get on board with my guy, Trendon Craig!!!!!

I am serious.  Not to derail this thread (but I guess I will) but Craig is on a serious roll at Delmarva, offers speed and maybe power, and was a 250K signing so the O's thought he might have some potential.    And he's still 21 years old!

More appropriate than this one, honestly.

Good point!   I hijacked this one but I did add a comment onto the Trendon Craig thread but you decided to quote me in this thread.   Not my fault.

I think you missed my point.   I’m saying at this point, there’s more merit to having a thread about Craig than Bowens, if you had to choose only one to start a thread about.   Obviously I think it’s fine to have a thread on either, or I wouldn’t have started this one.  But Craig is more likely to turn into a high level prospect.

I did miss your point but later on I realized what you said above. All good.
