Game Notes

  • This is the Orioles 45th game vs a righthanded starter and it is the FIRST time that Rougned Odor has not been in the starting lineup vs a RHP.
  • The White Sox actually have a losing record at home, and a winning record on the road, though both are fairly close to .500.   They have gone 10-7 their last 17 games.
  • White Sox have quite a few big name players on the IL:   OF Eloy Jiminez, 3B Yoan Moncada, closer Liam Hendriks, C Yasmani Grandal.   They have already let go of veteran Dallas Keuchel, who started the season in their rotation and was terrible.
  • The White Sox were 7-0 against the Orioles in 2021, and of course they did not play in the Covid shortened 2020 season when the Orioles played only teams from the Eastern Divisions.    The Orioles last beat the White Sox on May 1 2019, in the first game of a doubleheader.   In the top of the 8th, Richie Martin tripled and Jonathan Villar's sac fly gave the Orioles a 5-4 lead.  The Orioles lost the second game of the doubleheader 7-6 when Miguel Castro gave up a 2 out bases loaded single to Yonder Alonso in the bottom of the 9th, the last game they met in 2019.
  • There are no ex Orioles on the White Sox.   Liam Hendriks, currently on the IL, was Oriole property briefly in the 2013-2014 offseason when we claimed him on waivers from the Cubs in December and lost him on waivers to Toronto in February.  Although we rarely note him as "one that got away", he has been one of the better closers in major league baseball since 2019, putting up ERA+ of 243, 238, 173, and 143 these last four seasons including this one, and saving 93 games.
  • Gavin Sheets, son of former Oriole Larry Sheets and a Gilman alum, is also on the White Sox.
  • Tony LaRussa is the White Sox manager, just as he was when we faced Chicago in the ALCS 39 years ago and won 3 games to 1.
  • Thanks 1

Not looking forward to watching our guys trying to time up Cueto.  Saw an interview of Mountcastle when I briefly tuned in to Matt Vasgersian's new show (can't recall its name), and he said something like you have to load three times for each pitch...

The White Sox are calling up Double-A infield prospect Lenyn Sosa Thursday, a source confirmed.

Sosa, 22, has blossomed this season, posting a .331/.384/.549 hitting line with 14 home runs and 48 RBI over 289 plate appearances. He has a 13.8% strikeout rate.

Sosa played 35 games at shortstop, 12 at third base and nine at second base for Birmingham, committing two errors.

He was their #22 prospect going into the season, where he had produced a top OPS of .723 in rookie ball back in 2018. Have to think he's moved way up that list after producing a strong showing so far this season.

Got my rowing done and I'm ready for some baseball.  I hope they kick the White Sox while they are down.

Me as well. Would love the Orioles to compete with this team and hopefully win the series. They have some great hitters on their team.

From the radio broadcast:  Odor not in the lineup due to a slightly sore back, but could be available off the bench.

As I noted above, this is the first time all year Odor hasn't started vs a RH pitcher.   Now we know wh y.
