Starting pitching the last 15 games (3 turns)

Since Bruce Zimmermann left the rotation, the starting pitchers have been pretty stellar: 15 games, 78.1 IP, 2.07 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, 6.9 K/9, 2.9 K/BB.  It’s been masked a little by the three intentionally-short Voth starts, and Bradish did throw one stinker before going on the IL.   But you have:

Wells 16 IP 2 ER in 3 starts

Kremer 18.2 IP 0 ER in 3 starts

Lyles 19.2 IP 7 ER in 3 starts

Watkins 11 IP 2 ER in 2 starts

Not a bad run of starting pitching.

The pitching recently has been surprisingly good.  I keep expecting it to blow up at any point.  Pitchers like Lyles and Watkins don't exactly inspire confidence.  Hopefully in the case of pitchers like Watkins and Kremer who have struggled mightily in the past, they have made changes that will lead to success and not just been lucky.  I guess we'll find out soon enough.

Its crazy to think where our pitching could have been if Means and Gray Rod didn't get hurt.

Would a Means, Gray-Rod, Wells, Lyles, Kremer rotation have us pushing for a wild card spot?

Stop with the wild card talk.  The O's are about to be swept by the Twins.  We are better, but nowhere near playoff contention.

Wild card fantasy aside, we did hang tough with 1st-place Twins and came within a couple of pitches of sweeping them.

I will have to agree that we have been competitive.  I think if the right moves are made in the offseason the O's can have a good shot at a playoff spot next year.

Exactly, but would that have been the case had Means and Gray Rod not been hurt.
