Hays Wrist

wildcard

Recommended Posts

Hays injured his wrist in Minnesota.   Over the 9 game win streak Hays has gone 2 for 26 for a .077 batting average.  He still plays stellar defense.

Hays has a history of  playing hurt.  He will not ask out of the lineup.   If Hyde wants to let the wrist heal he is going to have to sit him.   Hyde gave him Sunday off and the off day on Monday.   But he had an 0 for 4 yesterday.   Stay tuned.

Stowers is ready for the majors and  Arauz or Nevin can be optioned.   Hyde may not want to IL Hays but there are ways to keep him on the team and rest him.  O's are probably going to need more offense to play well vs the Rays.

If the wrist is bothering him, which it may be, you IL him now. He only misses a few games and is eligible to come back soon after the AS break.

Nobody is a bigger Hays fan than me, and I totally agree.  Let him rest up and get back healthy.  Give Stowers some playing time.

Hyde admitted on the pregame that it was, and that the days off helped, but that the time off for the All Star Break would be most beneficial.  i bet he gets the day off Sunday so he can have 5 straight days off.

They are walking that line, hoping that the two off days this week, the 4 next week, and one or two bench days in the Chi & TB series is enough rest for it to heal, and perhaps they have made the wrong decision.   Hindsight is 20/20 of course, and we now now that he has not hit well while playing through it, something that was certainly a possibility but not a given to know in advance.

How much does playing three games at the Trop play into this.  Certainly watching and listening to broadcasts over the years it is apparent that the roof provides tough reads.  Would the O’s rather not throw rookies out there for, dare I say it, “ a pivotal series”.

I’d like to see Stowers up and Nevin down for the 2nd half. Stowers can rotate in 3-4 games a weeks in the OF/DH spots. Our lineup needs a little boost. McKenna would then be relegated to 5th OF/PR/Def Sub.

Agree. But the most obvious move to help the lineup right now is to promote Westburg. Stowers will be up either way once Santander is traded. But wouldn't be opposed to seeing Stowers earlier.

There's no reason for Tyler Nevin to still be on this team, he's reached the Chris Owings level of "should have been demoted to the minors/DFA'd weeks ago." We even did Nevin a solid by letting him start in a game opposite his dad. Time to move on.

Nevin could go down or Watkins can get optioned after his start tonight for Stowers.

I’m willing to back off the Gunnar/Westburg promotion for now while the team is streaking and Urias/Mateo are playing well.

Joke?  Of course, even good jumps don't get you there all of the time and the of feels the need to dive.

No.  The stats say he gets poor jumps and reads on the ball.  A lot of times, a player is diving for a ball because of that.  What looks like a spectacular play is actually a play that should have been a lot easier.

Not always the case of course.

Ok. Not disagreeing with that. But even if he got good jumps there would still be balls to dive for.  He's just not close enough to dive for those now because of the bad jumps.
