Beavers’ electric hand speed and fast, whippy swing give him a chance to be a below-average hitter if he makes the needed adjustments....

That doesn't exude a lot of confidence in this pick

I understand that quote is uninspiring, but I read it to mean that he could get the hit tool to below ML average which combined with the plus-power could give him some decent upside.  The profile reminds me of Stowers a bit.

This is one of the worst scouting reports I've seen:

Grover’s Take:

When Christian Yelich was drafted 1.23 in 2010 he was a high school First Baseman with questions about his position and his power potential. One thing no one doubted was his ability to Hit, having his swing compared to Mark Grace and Will Clark and being predicted to win a batting title. Beavers is Bizarro World opposite to Yelich, with his Hit Tool being questioned by EVERYBODY. Every amateur comes into pro ball needing their swing tweaked, but Beavers needs his burned to the ground, the earth salted, and an animal sacrifice performed before you can begin anew. If the Athletics draft Beavers at #19 then you can go ahead and slap an “F” on the overall Draft Grade because the A’s will be F**ked.

Doesn’t every player have a chance to be a below average hitter?

Baseball is hard.

Facts are most first rounders are a gamble when it comes to their career success. A first draft pick that makes the big leagues isn't guarantee and just reaching MLB is an accomplishment.

Teams miss on high first round draft picks all the time, but you hope to make up for those misses with lower round picks and International players. In the NFL if you're a GM and miss on a top ten draft pick, there's a potential danger of getting fired for blowing the draft.

Idk who Grover is but he’s clearly not someone who can be taken seriously.

It’s a good thing Elias doesn’t take drafting advice from Muppets.

Lighten up, Grover.

I'm okay with this pick, but really, really wish Elias had found a high, upside pitcher here. We have some great pitching prospects in our system, but we need a lot more. Hope this guy flies through our system and isn't a disappointment like Cadyn Grenier.

Beavers is a completely different kind of player than Grenier, though. And Elias didn't draft Grenier.

Best comment on that for sure. Anyone who uses cuss words in his analysis is not someone who's opinions I'm putting much weight into.

Iirc, Haskin’s swing had to change a lot and that hasn’t worked out so far.

Good point. The only thing is Haskin couldn't get to his game power very often, but at least Beavers did last year.

But I can be a below average hitter without making any adjustments.
