A couple of visitors (lurkers?) who are big Clemson fans hopped into the Wagner thread the other day, and were talking about their hopes to keep recruits like Porter and Smith.    Seems like they are going 1-for-2.

Pretty sure Tristan Smith today was No. 1 out of those 57, and that all 57 are (or were, in the case of Showalter and South Florida) highly prized recruits.

I'm one of them.  Yes, looks like Porter is gone to Texas but that Smith will be a Tiger, a Clemson Tiger that is.

This is certainly an overslot. It will be interesting to see how much. Elias hasn't lost a guy yet due to signability so I imagine he knows his number and his previous selections like the 4th and 7th picks were underslots.

Do you think this was a target pick they have been working with to gauge signability? Or is this someone with a a profile they liked from scoutng reports but they hadn't invested much time on?  I'm always curious how these draft picks are made in the latter rounds. You can't talk to everybody, I wouldn't think.

Being a college baseball coach has got to suck from this perspective. Yeah you handed out some scholarships to some guys that are studs but they can get yanked away real fast.
