I fear its 2028, we're in a wildcard game and it's tied...Orioles Manager Buck Britton goes to the bullpen phone as his all-star closer Zack(h) Showalter paces but doesn't warm...

…but instead Britton brings in Ubaldo Encarnarcion (it was Encarnacion, but he legally changed his name once the Orioles re-hired Gary Thorne).

It was more like |arn • kuh • nay • see • own| most of the time, as I remember it.  But there might have been some |nar • see • own| mixed in there, too.

I have heard numerous announcers stumble over particular names (like Garceau trying to pronounce ‘Arauz’), but Encarnacion was really Thorne’s phonetic bugbear.

And no really good reason for it.   He also really struggled with Dennis Sarfate, who he almost always called “Sarfarte.”

Do you think this was a target pick they have been working with to gauge signability? Or is this someone with a a profile they liked from scoutng reports but they hadn't invested much time on?  I'm always curious how these draft picks are made in the latter rounds. You can't talk to everybody, I wouldn't think.

The Orioles have signed almost every drafted player sine Elias has taken over. I'd say he has a pretty good idea of what each player will sign for.

Way less than expected. I thought he’d get close to a mil.

Seems we have well over one million now to throw at Walters.

I thought he'd get around mid-700's. I don't think you throw 1mil at Walters just bc you can though. That said we still have to sign McLean

Can’t imagine we don’t get McLean done.  He was our first pick of Day 2.  I am sure they knew exactly what he wanted.  I suspect that they are holding off on him because they don’t want the others to know what they have left and just insist on the remainder which is just a smart strategy.
