It all has to be accomplished but not in one year.

Well, trading Guthrie and BRob can really speed it up..Last year, we ended up with our starting CFer, starting LFer and some good pitching depth for both the rotation and bullpen.

That was a lot to get back.

So, this offseason, we could conceivably end up with 2 IF prospects and another starting pitcher prospect...along with some other potential depth.

That isn't so crazy to expect.

It certainly would be worth it for AM to float Guthrie's name out there (rather than actively trying to trade him) and see the kind of offers that might come in. There's never been any solid evidence of trades brewing, but we've seen names like Greinke and Cain mentioned even though their teams deny it. Also using Guthrie in a package might help dispose of a bad contract (Huff, Mora, etc.).

There is no sense to do that. All of our bad contracts are up after 2009, so the Orioles can afford to keep the bad contracts.

Shipping one of them with Guthrie only drops his value.

Again, name for me a Boras client who has let his client extend through any of his FA years.

AM isn't going to extend Wieters that early...its not his m.o.

I don't agree with it but its not happening.

So, unless Wieters fires Boras, this ain't happening.

So, here is what we need to do...Keep him down in the minors as long as it takes to add at least one extra year ot service time..Then, at that moment, you bring him up because once his 6 years of service time is up, if he is still an Oriole, he is gone.

It sucks but it is what it is...That is the problem with a Boras client.

BTW, Wieters is going to follow Boras just like Tex does..you can bank on that.

I agree. That's why Boras and the MFY are killing baseball. The commissioner needs to step up and fix the game and he needs to do it now.

As for JTrea's opening post, I think he has truly fallen off the rocker. I would like to say this is as low as he can go, but there is still the chance that we resign Millar, which should send him completely to the looney bin! :laughlol:

Huff is a bad contract? If he duplicates last year's stats, someone is gonna pay him huge money next offseason.

This doesn't make any sense. Neither Huff nor Mora makes so much that, on an expiring contract, we need to package them with Guthrie to offload.

They're not a concern: they offer ML value and are gone after 2009.

Further, packaging Huff or Mora to get rid of the contract will minimize our return - which is exactly the opposite of what we should do with Guthrie, whose return is unlikely to be enormous anyway.

Can anyone think of a deal for Guthrie?

ex: Guthrie to (Blank) for (Blankety blankety blank)

It would take a ton for the O's to trade Guthrie. They still have him for four years. He could head a staff of Guthrie, Tillman, Arrieta and Matusz. Some body would have to offer at least three top talents. That is not likely.
