The Orioles announcing a partnership with Super Book Sports, which, pending approval by the state sports wagering commission will allow the company to set up a sports betting lounge in Camden Yards, which is scheduled to open next year.

“The Orioles are thrilled to partner with SuperBook to enhance our gameday experience with the introduction of their first-ever on-premise sports lounge,” said T.J. BRIGHTMAN, Orioles Senior Vice President, Chief Revenue Officer, in a news release. “While our organization is striving to build the next World Series contender in Charm City, we are constantly exploring unique opportunities to engage with Birdland’s diverse fanbase and welcome new visitors to downtown Baltimore. The addition of a SuperBook sportsbook only reinforces our iconic ballpark’s standing as one of the premier entertainment destinations in the region.”

I really wanted to see the team be sold. When I see stuff like this and the concert series it makes me doubt that a sale will happen.

I agree with most of the post's before me that normalizing an addictive behavior is never a good thing.

Seems to me like the NFL really pulled ahead of MLB popularity concurrently with the rapid growth of fantasy football. Whether you like the idea or normalizing gambling, baseball needs it in order to maintain or grow in popularity.

In game betting (betting on each pitch being strike, ball, in play, etc.) at the stadium will be helpful with what many see as a slow moving, boring sport.

Man, you guys make it sound like a gambling lounge at OPACY is going to turn the warehouse into a crackhouse and that the fall of our civilization is at stake due to sports gambling.

I don't like it because I find FanDuel and DraftKings and the rest to be tacky.

But I'd rather have people who want to gamble do it in a place that's safe instead of dealing with shady characters and individuals who'd like to break your arms and legs if you don't square away your gambling debts.

I hate how intertwined gambling and sports have become. BUT given that it’s happening regardless, I’m glad the Os plan to cash in along with everyone else. Can’t afford to leave any potential income stream behind when competing against the rest of the league.

I just wish Draft Kings and Fan Duel would come up with some better commercials.  At least they got rid of the one where the manager and the ump are arguing over nothing, and the very irritating hostess of the last several Draft Kings ads.  The current ones are more boring and unfunny, rather than affirmatively obnoxious.

Isn't gambling cooler if all the gamblers look like John Candy from Uncle Buck, and there's real risk that some guy with a pinkie ring is going to hit you with a pipe if you don't pay up?

Maybe it would be a good idea to combine your gambling safe space with one of those places where you can get clean needles and antiseptic wipes and stuff. That would probably be popular in Baltimore. Nice service for the community.

If you're streaming with the MASN app you still see that commercial 11 times a game.  Interspersed with a graphic of what looks like a cell phone with MASN's logo on it for a minute or two, like they didn't have anything else to air.

I mean, if everyone's going to be smoking meth anyway hopefully the Orioles find a way to monetize it.

Clearly you’re against gambling I think we see your point.

MY point meanwhile is basically that if everyone else is doing it, the Os have to as well. That’s not always a great argument for something questionable but I think it is here.

Not ‘the Os should monetize something bad’ but ‘something bad has been monetized overall and the Os are stupid if they don’t get their piece of it’
