Henderson coming up this week?

I guess anyone who is "Find Friends" with Gunnar Henderson can get a pretty good clue about now.    My memory of the whole Adley, It's Time stagecraft back in May was the team tweeting somewhere around breakfast time.

On the two 1B, two 2B split when he crossed the diamond last weekend, in the early going, could Mountcastle days off stay near level with Odor?    And if Gunnar cutting his teeth has to do Tony Phillips type things, it'll surprise me 3B Ramon Urias is that much of a thing in the Club's eyes.

Agreed.  I think Henderson should be at third and let Urias/Odor platoon at second.  I would actually rather see a Urias/Vavra platoon at second, but I think Hyde likes Odor out there.

This has been obvious for a little while that he was coming up.  The bigger question is, how are they going to play this?

Does Odor go to the bench?  Do Stowers, Vavra and Henderson play almost everyday?

I think I saw @Frobby mention that there are some number of at bat restrictions that go along with the days of service to keep Henderson rookie status for next year.  So I think they will need to give him some days off to keep the at bat numbers down.

I hope if the move is made today they announce it early enough for fans close enough to make plans to get to the stadium tonight.

It’s 130 at bats.

I don’t think many fans will go just to see Henderson.   He hasn’t been hyped for three years the way Adley was.  He’s only been ranked as the No. 1 prospect for a short time.   People will be excited but it’s not quite the same.

I will make an effort to see Grayson Rodriguez’s debut, but that’s probably next year.

I agree that Gunnar doesn't have the same name recognition that Adley had but I think this promotion would be much more of a signal from the organization that the rebuild is over and they are all in on winning now.  Which I think is pretty exciting for the fans and should be celebrated.

I read this a few times and most went over my head, but with Vavra and Gunnar adding two lefty bats I can definitely see Hays and Mountcastle getting some "much deserved rest". One might sit today against Cease so Hyde can stack the lineup with lefties (.170/.550 vs RHB).

Henderson has been my favorite Orioles prospect (yes, even more so than Adley) since he was drafted mostly because he was such a steal and I'm partial to infielders (catchers simply don't play close to 162 games a season, as we're seeing with Adley). So I'm really looking forward to his MLB debut.

I just hope Hyde/Elias make the right move and bench Odor once Henderson is up. Vavra and Urias should platoon at 2B with Gunnar at 3B. Odor shouldn't be on the roster at all (Westburg should be promoted as well and take Odor's roster spot, but I don't expect the O's to promote Westburg if he can't play every day), but I'll be happy if he's relegated to the  bench.

    • The Achilles heel for this team is going to be the unit that doesn't step up in the postseason. I can easily see scenarios where: the bullpen is hot and provides good performances but the offense sputters and isn't clutch the offense comes up big but the bullpen blows games late starting pitching tosses some clunkers (not really likely with Burnes and Eflin) and they can't recover the defense sucks and gives opponents extra outs to work with, blowing games open when the bullpen or SP would have been able to escape and continue We've seen all of these units falter at one point or another during this season.  We've also seen all of these units perform very well at different times throughout the season.  So, we'll see what turns out to be the Achilles heel for the Orioles in the playoffs starting next week.
    • I agree I missed the mark on a correct forum, and ask a moderator to please relocate to Rants as that game annoyed me yesterday. I appreciate the strong moderators here and know I'm not one of them.     Sorry for making it worse at a tough moment.
    • Nail hit on head. It really comes down to the offense in the playoffs for us. I think our pitching is good enough overall especially the starters. Shaky sometimes sure, but they can hold their own most of the time. If we don't bring our "A" hitting game in the playoffs we won't go far.
    • The bullpen has warts for sure, but if this offense doesn't figure out how to hit good pitching in the playoffs, the bullpen won't matter. Even I got a little excited when they put 5 and 9 up on the board Tues and Wed, and then it crashed back to reality last night when I remembered they were facing Schmidt and Stroman. When facing a real ace like Cole they were completely shut down. What's gonna happen next week when they face Skubal, Reagins, and/or Lugo? The mediocre bullpen won't matter if they can't figure out how to score some runs off pitchers like that...
    • Why carry four 1 inning guys over a LH long option? Cionel stinks and should not be on the roster over Povich when you still have Akin, Coulombe and Soto.
    • Really would be nice to win tonight OR have DET lose so then they can play around Sat/Sun when the games would have no bearing on the seeding. Dont want this to come down to Sunday and having to win to get the 4 seed or then there will be some tough decisions that have to be made.
    • Looking for a big performance from him next week. This is why he’s here.
