Apparently MacPhail is trying to set a record for the tallest roster ever. Add Sexson and Hendrickson to Mickolio and that other tall guy they got in the Bedard trade (was Butler his name)... and we're in good shape. Too bad we non-tendered Cabrera and didn't try to sign Randy Johnson to anchor the pitching staff.

I'm not sure why anyone bothered to respond to this thread in the first place. If we had just let it sit there, nakedly exposed, it would have quickly faded into obscurity....just like Ritchie Sexson should do.

How long have you been here?

Even the most miniscule of things are hashed out here and complained about to no end.

I'm truly speechless. Looks like you may have internal options but, barring that, the Indians are falling all over themselves with young, cheap 1B with at least a little upside. I really don't think it would take much to acquire Garko, M. Aubrey, J. Brown or S. Head. Why not roll the dice with a young guy instead of a retread? Am I missing something?

Who said the Orioles aren't agressive in pursuing FA's? They are the FIRST team to show interest in Richie Sexson. Wow.

I think the best role for him would be 1B for the Bowie Baysox in the playoffs next year against the Akron Aeros.

Seriously, I'd be happier if they brought back Kevin Millar. Even Sammy Sosa is a better option if they feel really desperate for a bat.

To offset Travis Hafner.

Maybe the wizards can hire Macphail to be there general manager.

I think the O's front court may be more intimidating than theirs.

If it is a non-guaranteed or minor league deal than I actually like it. There's the slimest of slim chances he rebounds to some version of his former self which is useful. If not, we cut him in Spring Training or a couple of weeks into the season.

If it's a major league deal, then it is pretty hard to justify. I'm ok with the Hendrickson deal given the state of our pitching and the need to protect some of our young guys. This is a different situation. We have better internal options and should be able to at least find a former prospect with a better chance of hitting the jackpot.

    • First game up this season.  He played a whole 2 games in the field in the MLB last year and might have been a little nervous that it is a sign that the team doesn't trust him in the field.
    • I wonder if Kjerstad will be back in Norfolk when the team returns to Baltimore.
    • 3/15 base is the rumor, which breaks down to a 2/12.2 extension after his rookie deal expires.  That's an absolute steal, and even with a huge amount of incentives, I can't believe the Ravens got him to sign this cheaply.
    • Anyone notice him smiling as he got into the box for his final at bat?   I think he was feeling a little better about life after making solid contact twice in a row.
    • I would feel better about this game if he would foul off a few close ones with 2 strikes-like Kjerstad did last night-instead of just watching them go by. Take those pitches on the outside to the opposite field.  If your expecting 1 pitch but get another, fight it off. I'd be happy with another hit before another 15 ABs go by. Maybe throw in a few 95+ EV in there too.
    • His path to staying in baseball is as a utility player. The more positions he can play, the more likely he is to stay in the league. Good for him. But I don't anticipate him back in Baltimore. We saw them go Kjerstad when Hays even though the team is very lefty heavy. With Mateo getting looks in CF and Cowser able to play there for a bit, there really isn't any role that he's next in line for (or even 2nd or third in line). Even learning 2B doesn't get him in a next in line position given Norby.
    • In my book, he’s had two outings that were awful and three that were decent, including yesterday’s.  My guess is that if he has a decent outing on the 27th, the O’s won’t go through gymnastics to try to find a way to extend his rehab, even though his ERA has been a train wreck.
