I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Vavra himself isn't particularly concerned about his own power. It seems like even if he gets exactly what he's looking for, he's happy to hit it into the gap rather than swinging out of his shoes and whiffing. That's what I like about him though: he has an approach on every single pitch.

Serious question as to whether he has the physical tools to fight off good stuff in the zone until he gets balls or pitches to hit, but the only way we'll find out is if they play him.

If he gets on base but doesn't hit for power and is a defensive liability is he worth a roster spot?  How high an OBP would he need?

Exactly right, he's not trying to muscle up and go deep all the time.  He's patient, doesn't swing much out of the zone and makes the pitcher work.

He is the son of a hitting coach, I'm assuming he's comfortable going to the opposite field to fight something off.  He doesn't look pull-happy.

As long as defenses aren't able to squeeze him by playing super shallow.

He sounds like a good dude.

He is now.  I'm the youngest of 5 boys.  I spent my youth getting tormented and beaten pretty much every day of my life growing up until, one-by- one they left home.  We're all good, now. It made for some great whiffle ball, basketball, and back yard football games,  though.  We don't talk about the times they played William Tell with BB guns and I was the guy with the soda can on my head.

Yeah, this is the question. His entire game is just about getting to first.  He can't even really do anything on the bases once he reaches either.

I think if he can maintain this pace it's useful enough that he earns a spot, but they have to let him play to see if he can do it against major league pitching.

Exactly. How effective can he be when outfields can squeeze him:
