I'll preface my comment realizing that many of these guys are depth or org guys just so prospects can get their playing time.  But here was yesterday's Norfolk line-up.

1. Norby - DH

2. Westburg - SS

3. Ortiz - 2B

4. Cowser - CF

5. Nevin - 3B

6. Diaz - RF

7. Nottingham - C

8. Martin - LF

9. Grenier - 1B -- .661 OPS in AAA

I guess playing Grenier (generously listed at 5'11") at 1B for the past 5 games means they have no desire to play Westburg or Norby (or even Nevin) at 1B.

My speculations are:

* There is no real succession plan at 1B

* They don't want to give the impression Ortiz, Norby, or Westburg need to be moved off other IF positions.

* They want a good glove at 1B (i.e. not Nevin?) to help field the occasional bad throws (i.e. they want to minimize the E's on paper to maximize potential trade value of Ortiz, Norby, Westburg).
