I’ve seen enough.  Failed experiment.  Relegate him to mop up duty status in blowouts (both winning and losing ones.). He’s not up for anything else..

I wouldn't go that far, but yeah, I think we have much better options for high-leverage. He really shouldn't be pitching with a one or two run lead unless we're really desperate.

Well unfortunately we have 3-4 relievers that are unavailable most days because our starters don’t consistently pitch deep and no one in the pen is really being used for multiple innings, so everyone has to pitch, and most of our games are close.

I thought he was pretty good. Like Bautista he just needs to spike that splitter when he is ahead in the count, or just ride the FB. At least he was throwing strikes last night. O thought that was one of his better outings overall.

He threw three fastballs to the last batter and headed for the dugout.  Fuji is a three out specialist for us.  Don't speed up the bats throwing junk in the zone.

He needs another pitch. The splitter is getting rocked and guys are just sitting on it. 103 works if you can throw strikes and throw another pitch effectively. He does neither. There's a ton of arm talent there. He just needs to learn how to harness it.

He has a whopping seven pitches according to statcast. It's just that he has pared down the secondary offerings over time because location has been such an issue. Couple that with the fastball not having much movement and hitters sitting on it and there's just a lot to work on.

I think he could have a turnaround with the benefit of an offseason though. I would consider extending him on a prove-it deal if you can get a good price now.

He has that mid 90s splitter that's just a bad fastball when left up with guys geared for 102. He needs to ditch that and go with the 90mph let-up that Vlad Jr. swung over for the last out last night. They have to keep working with this guy, he could be devastating if he could gain some consistency. A 7th-9th of Fuji, Hall, Cano, Bautista could be all-time nasty going forward.

He did look good last night, but we've seen him look good before only to have a disaster in his next appearance.

There's so much raw ability here, though.  I'm hoping we re-sign him this offseason and the analytics department can work with him before ST 2024.  Maybe some time at Driveline or whatever hip baseball lab the kids are going to in these offseasons, too.

We seem to find time to criticize when the performance is subpar.

We should also praise when the player just, in this case, shoves.

Shintaro was a buzz saw last night in the 9th.

Had similar thoughts when Richards was in to pitch for the second game in a row. His first outing in game 1 of this series he handled the Os bats pretty effectively -- so I wasn't eager to see him again in game 2. The results were speak for themselves.

It's volatile on the mound for the non-elites. And even the elite pitchers are subject to melting down.

Not sure I am ready to forgive Baumann yet, but my guess is people in baseball can think like this (big picture) better than we can.
