Well I guess this is their Jordan Lyles-type signing. 

Other than his sinker he had good numbers last year against his other offerings. Maybe they plan to have him use it less and get better production from him?

People will get all worked up over this. Obviously they better not stop here. I thought adding a 2nd SP on a one year deal made sense. Have to see how rest of winter plays out.

If we weren't going to target good pitchers, I would have rather just re-signed Lyles.

Lyles 2.0.  Obviously we're paying him less than Lyle's option, or we may as well have stuck with Lyles.

Once again this is all about timing. 
 

If Gibson would have come after a significant SP people view it differently. Getting out of PHilly should help him. I assume analytics dept liked him.
