Right, he was on rehab at the start of the season.

Then he finished his minor league rehab and was assigned to Norfolk where he played games as a fully rehabed minor league player.

Why?

Why was a healthy AR in the minors at any point last season?

Why are you bringing this up? You still think they screwed over Adley. Well if they tried to it didn’t work. He got his year of service time.

The Orioles we’re going to carry 2 catchers like every other team at the start of the season. Benboom was one of them. That’s all I’m getting at.

We singed Cave and Benboom to 800k and then DFAd both of them. So we basically signed O’Hearn for 600k more. We gambled and lost on Cave. We’re doing the same with O’Hearn.

People are upset over the lack of FA SP signings and the Frazier deal, but that doesn’t mean we just stop shop and don’t incrementally incrementally improve the 40 man.

I like these moves. Diaz is cut from the same cloth as Urias and Mateo. Great defender. Can he put the offense together?

Bottomline… we just added two guys at 1B for depth, and it cost us 700k.

They don't upset me but I don't think the players are worth the effort.  Fungible.

Back in the 80's the Redskins used to use their superior financial muscle to stash guys as extra depth, but those guys were good depth.

These guys looks like waiver wire depth.

I'm bringing this up because we are discussing how much playing time Benboom got last year.

Part of that playing time was because of this.

Bemboom was such an important part of the team last year I keep misspelling his name.

The man had 59 PA’s. 59.

Is there any potential roster move with this current team that compares with this? No.

Keep him from earning a full year of service time by finishing high in the RoY voting...oops.

Possibly to keep him away from Super 2 status...well that at least isn't going to be an issue...

If he was healthy he should have been in the majors.

If he wasn't healthy he should have been on the IL or doing rehab.

1.  Wasn't he already past the thresshold for service time when he started his rehab games (On April 26) in the minors?

2. Super 2 status.   It's not a static date.  Wasn't there a chance if would still qualify when they did bring him up?

MLB position depth as of now

SP: One of Wells/Voth, Watkins, Hall, Zimmerman

RP: Khriebel, Vespi, Gilaspie

CF: Cowser(scary)

COF: Cowser, Cordero, Mazara

1B: O’Hearn

2B: Westburg, Norby, Ortiz

3B: Westburg

SS: Ortiz

Ca: Benboom, Handley

You’re missing McKenna. He can play CF.

He said this about Diaz and Cordero too as I said. Now show me where exactly he said he was a lock to make the team.

I never said Roch did say that. I said he’s trying to act like OHearn is a ML player, as evidenced by the tweet I linked.

1- He was part the point where the O's could get a draft pick.  He obviously wasn't past the point he could finish in the top 2 of RoY voting.

2- Hence me saying possibly.  It is very possible he would have qualified as a Super 2.

This seems silly to me.   A guy who has never played in the majors before misses  almost all of spring training and isn’t ready for game action until 3 weeks into the season.  Are you going to put that guy on the major league roster the first day he’s healthy enough for game action?   Absolutely not.   There’s not a team in the majors that would do that.

So how many rehab games is enough?   I don’t know, but 20 doesn’t seem like an unreasonable number.   If he’d been a major league veteran with a proven track record, maybe 3-6 games would have been enough.   But not for a guy with literally zero big league experience.

I’m trying to think of another highly-touted rookie who began the year on DL and then had to rehab before being called up, but I’m having trouble coming up with someone.

No I'm going to bring him up when he finishes his rehab, which he should have been physically healthy for before beginning.

They have designated how many days is appropriate for a rehab assignment.

If he was going to be the OD starter than yes, he should have been up when his rehab was over.

But that's enough on this topic, you won't ever convince me Elias wasn't trying to get an extra year, heck most folks here were agreeing that was the proper course of action.

Sorry to rehash it again.
