You’re not the best at debating sometimes.

I already addressed his “point”.  O’Hearn is obviously not the same hitter as he was in KC. He’s even talked about the adjustments he’s made since coming over here that have helped him. It’s not my fault  if other posters can’t read.

He also had a career .680 OPS overall before this year, so no, that’s not a valid excuse. As far as I’m concerned you can throw his career numbers out the window, he’s a totally new guy with the O’s. He’s also got a 1.018 OPS vs. lefties this year. That’s a SSS obviously, but the reason it’s a SSS is Hyde refuses to give him ABs against them.

The decision to mostly sit O’Hearn vs lefties is one of the things helping him achieve his career year. Expose him to LHPs all year long and his overall shine would dim, even if his improvements help him against lefties too.

That’s conjecture. The point is he should be given the opportunity. If he stinks it up, then stop playing him vs. lefties. But Hyde hasn’t even given him the chance. With what limited ABs he has had against them, he’s done pretty well.

There just isn’t a rational argument to have him keep riding the bench every time there’s a LHP starting.

Right, we have all this data showing something, from when he was given chances in the past, but we should just ignore the data.

Because...reasons....

He's been a great story but he's 29.  Odds are overwhelming that this is an outlier year for him.

Yeah, those “reasons” being him having an OPS over .100 points higher than his career average 🤣

He just turned 30 but I get this is his age 29 season. He's been worth 1.1 bWAR, how the hell do you bench a stud like that against LHP?

Yea, that's never happened before in the history of the game.

A guy has never just had an outlier season that didn't mean his career had suddenly changed.

It's almost like they've been putting him in the best situations to succeed, hence him having 288 PA. I'd wager quite a bit if he had 550 plus PA he would not look nearly as impressive.

Hyde and the organization is clearly going to put certain players in best position to succeed and it seems they feel with starters going just about half the game that they rather have O’Hearns bat come off the bench at some point in a key spot then get two at bats maybe not a key situation.  If we need offense O’Hearn will still get at least two at bats in this game.

Fortunately, we have solid evidence that it's not an outlier.

Adjustments to O’Hearn’s hitting stance are a third reason for his offensive breakout. As the Baltimore Sun uncovered in a great story last month, Orioles hitting coaches Ryan Fuller and Matt Borgschulte have done extensive work with O’Hearn. Fuller and Borgschulte discovered that during his swing, O’Hearn’s hips were swaying backward toward the catcher, disrupting his timing, while his habit of keeping the bat flat on his shoulder made him hunch and made it harder for him to reach inside pitches or drive the ball the opposite way. The adjustments they worked on with O’Hearn since the spring focused on his lower body timing, his posture, and his hand placement. They also increased his launch angle.

...

Asked whether it was unusual that nobody had discovered his swing abnormalities before, O’Hearn responded, “You could say that.”

KC is an organizational dumpster fire. Plenty of evidence that the Orioles caught something that turned O'Hearn into a better hitter rather than this just being smoke and mirrors.

The article does mention struggling against LHP, but that was back when he only had 10 PA vs. 22 now. Still a really SSS but when the article was written his OPS vs LHP was .422 vs. 1.018 now.

Did you see the new Jaffe chat?

Someone asked a question about an 29 year old player, a six year vet, who is having a breakthrough season.

The underlying metrics are part of it — does this guy’s batted ball stats and other peripherals support the top-line numbers? Understanding why a player is getting those kind of results is important, too, and it’s likely the piece of information the public doesn’t have. What changed for him? Was it a new approach, a mechanical adjustment, better health? Those factors are all ones that a team wants to know when considering how much to trust a smaller sample.

The player in question is of course DJ Stewart.

Should the Mets throw out all the previous data on Stewart?

Didn't they "fix" Mateo earlier in the year?

Didn't they "fix" Voth last year?
