I voted for Jones. Being a CF gives him a huge advantage to begin with, and he's a damned good one. Right now his flychasing is better than his throwing by a wide margin, but he's got the arm for it, he just needs to work on technique.

Realistically, the vote on this should not even be close. Jones should win by a landslide.

BTW, where is Silent James? He virtually guaranteed Markakis is a Gold Glover winner on the other thread?

Again, since they don't give out GG by position in the OF, Jones is the answer here.

If they did it by position it would be Markakis.

My bad. I voted for Markakis because I didn't realize that they don't go by position. Sorry for tainting the results!

I think eventually they both will win one. I think Nick will win one first. It usually takes a few years to build up the reputation before you get enough votes to win the award. I think Nick will win one in the next year or two and then Jones could become a perennial winner of the award if he continues to progress and improve.

Depends on whether Nick shows up much on ESPN highlights nailing guys at the plate.

If he does, he'll get one. If he doesn't, he won't.

We all know Old#5 is making this a referendum on Markakis' ability, but we all know it's an accounting of the peculiarities of the system.

This poll would be similar to one asking if Richie Ashburn or Frank Robinson was more likely to win a GG, and using the results to justify the ridiculous claim Ashburn was a better player.

over the next 6 years?

Gold Glove Award ... I used to think this was a great award with Brooks getting some 18 of them, and Belanger, Blair, Cal, Mussina, etc, BUT two things changed my mind:1) I beleive I heard that Raffy got one with the Rangers when he only spent some 8 games at 1B (rest of time he was DH) and 2) Cal went one year with only 3 errors and didn't get one, but he did get one the following year when he made 8. It appears the voters (managers and coaches) don't really take it all that seriously. Havng said that, Nick definitely deserves one for this year and he is an awesome RF, but I say Guthrie will be the next O to get one, barring a new addition. IMO.

Errors aren't a good reflection of how good a fielder you are, in general. Yes, if you commit a lot of errors, you are a bad fielder. But committing few errors doesn't mean you're a good fielder. Does anyone really think Nate McLouth (leader in the NL in CF fielding percentage) is the best center fielder in the NL? Is Michael Young anything more than a mediocre fielding shortstop (his fielding percentage was quite high if I recall correctly)?

I don't know anything about this specific situation you're talking about, but using error numbers to decide on a GG nomination's validity is just silly.

Brooks always made umpteen E's per year.

Mostly when he landed on his face, diving to take away a double, and then threw the ball past 1B.

The batter would end up on 2B anyway, just like if a normal human was playing 3B and never touched the ball.

But the batter would get credit for only a single, and Brooks would get an E.

Oh, well. He got 16 GG's in a row anyway. Which is a lot.
