Baltimore Sun on John Angelos being transparent

He responded emotionally in the moment which shows very little self-control.  I'm sure he regrets his "commitment" now...  He's not required to do any type of disclosure.  At this point, the decision is between his integrity and the business-mindedness of the game/private nature of ownership.  Ultimately, I'd like to see a more competitive budget.  But opening the books isn't the best way to run a business when (if?) any type of FA bidding is involved.

He doesn't have the ability to move the team.

Also, he's getting a huge bribe in the near future.

The team isn't going anywhere.

Anyone think Nashville is going to spend a billion or so on a new stadium in this economy?

I don’t think they’re going anywhere either. I just like that a journalist is actually calling John’s trustworthiness into account for making an inane statement that he had no plans to ever honor.

Was it still the heat of the moment when he double-downed on his promise?

If he’d just blurted out his promise to show the books at the MLK Day event, I’d write it off as a dumb spur of the moment remark.   But then he repeated it during his spring training interview, when he’d had plenty of time to think about what he was going to say.   That’s just stupid and disrespectful.

Do I really care about seeing the Orioles’ books?   No, there’s no entitlement to it, and other teams don’t do it.   But just be honest about it.

Yeah, true.  The mind developed from a silver spoon (and tongue) is really beyond my expertise.  But I do think it's rooted in his emotional response and wanting to save face.

The other thing I always notice is that when a reporter asked the Oriokes communications director or anyone else they have no comment. We heard you did not sign the lease extension? No comment. Then a press release with Governot Moore saying that the Orioles are going to build around the stadium and hopefully sign by the All- Star break  Not sure if people know that John Angelos and the Governor toured Truist Park and the buildings around it.

Question about the Baltimore Sun sign? No connent.

Question about Dempsey's restaurant. They seem to have no phone or website anymore? No comment.

They did get a half comment  about the Sportsbook after a reporter walked by and saw the sign going up.

It's wild how the younger Angelos is running into the same exact problems with the press that his father did. Some things never change, like the Sun putting up critical articles about Orioles ownership. And good for them! It's just funny. Like, if he just would shut up none of this would be a thing.

I can't believe this guy is that much of a dummy to come out and make promises to the media about what they can "review"... complete with deadlines.

The correct answer is, "That's none of your business, lil Kenny."

At the end of the day, they are a privately held limited partnership. He is in no way obligated or required to share jack with anyone. There's a reason his old man never really spoke to the media aside from a few prepared remarks.

He has no one to be accountable to, so from his perspective, why should he? Remember, to him, we're all peasants and that includes the peasant press.

If Angelos is in the last name, you have to take everything he/she says with a grain of salt. The Orioles will never be a 1st class organization as long as this family owns them.

With them no longer getting the big advertising above the scoreboard, I'm guess the gloves are allowed to come off when it comes to criticism. Face it, anyone who ever went after the organization in any way, including me, eventually gets black balled.

The other thing to remember is with MASN, the Orioles can control the narrative. They can't elsewhere any longer.
