Game 2 Thoughts

Losses count no matter what time of the season they happened in.  Last years team had all the time in the world to make up for a bad April.  If they had played well in April, they would have made the playoffs.  It's that simple.

So you don’t believe in this team because of today? Maybe the reason I’m not as ticked as usual is because I actually believe in this team.

If they miss the playoffs by a game or two, this is one we'll look back at.

I don't understand how anyone can be invested in this team the way we are on here and not almost have a stroke due to McKenna.  And then Bautista.

But like I said, it shouldn't have come to that.  Mullins flailing around in the outfield Thursday and today, not having any idea where the wall is...Hays today, somehow running into the corner near the Pesky Pole and having that ball bounce BEHIND HIM.  Santander looking like a monkey ****ing a doorknob in leftfield Thursday...it's pathetic.  They look awful.

No, I'm not calming down.  McKenna was sledge hammer that broke the camels back today.  ****ing inexcusable.  HE'S SUPPOSED TO BE THERE FOR HIS DEFENSE.

McKenna, Hays, and Mullins are not bad defensively, but all of them, along with Santander, have been dreadful the first two games.  Not just bad, but the worst two games of outfield defense I ever recall seeing in over 40 years of watching baseball.  The McKenna and Hays misplays are things that you may not see all season.   At this point, I am just going to chalk it up to weird things that happen in baseball.

You must not watch the Angels.

That’s true, I don’t. I knew as soon as that ball was in the air that it wasn’t going to be caught, though, with the way that outfield had played so far. It just felt like it was going to happen.

I don't think I said that "I don't believe in this team," but the outfield play over the first two games has been atrocious.

The O’s are the only team who could lose a game like that.

Did you forget the White Sox game just last year.  That then them to go on a huge skid.  This loss won’t kill us but how we come back from it will be more important.  You will lose a bunch of games you should win in 162 and some you win you deserve to lose.

Did I say otherwise? If it continues we won’t have to worry about meaningful games later on.

How do you guys do when your NFL blows a game? Which is a hell of a lot more painful. Far fewer games.

If this was a playoff game it’s perhaps worse loss in franchise history. It’s not.

I remember getting ticked in 14 when Britton blew a game in NY. We went on to win 96 games and won division running away. I’m sure I’ll get ticked off this year. These first two games don’t even feel normal. Odd baseball.

This is about a painful loss as it gets, but the one constant in these games were poor relief pitching and awful outfield defense.

I can't imagine that Mullins and Hays suddenly forgot how to play defense so they should be better. Santander slipped last year defensively and looked terrible in the first game. It's why I thought he would spend most of his time at DH this year. As for McKenna, as much as it sucks, and yes McKenna has never been known as a heads up player, but it was a freak drop. So overall I expect the outfield defense to improve.

Now, the bullpen? Bautista looks like a guy late in spring training, which is where he is since he started late. His command is not there. Perez should be fine, and Gillaspie's stuff looks pretty decent, but he doesn't have a track record of success. Akins has been fine but honestly, is there a guy in this pen right now that you feel confident when they are on the mound?

I think the bullpen is going to be very hit and miss this season. They'll obviously be better than they've been in these games, but I didn't have a ton of confidence in them going into the season and they have done nothing to gain my confidence after blowing two big leads (though they got out of the 1st game by the hair on their chinny chin chins".

Can't say the games have been boring. lol

Bullpen wasn't the main pitching issue; Kremer was
