The 2023 attendance thread

I think one take away for all of us on OH, we should all try to make it to an extra game or two and bring family/friends if possible. Obviously, if you're a season ticket holder, or live far away, unemployed at the moment, etc. this doesn't so much apply to you. I realize I am preaching to the choir on this board, but let's all try to get to an extra game or two if possible and maybe encourage our respective families and social circles to do the same.

So about 84,000 for the three game Pirate series. 36,182 today. Pretty much a sellout but they don't open up the seats in the left field corner right field corner.

I think they do if there enough sales overall. I thought they opened it up for the Detroit game on little league day but that was about the same attendance as today IIRC.

What's strange to me is there were a few games where they were advertising the bleacher seats Mon-Thu deal, but then if you go to buy some tickets, they show unavailable in the bleacher sections. Then I watched as each of those sections barely had anyone in them on those nights.

Tonight is a superstar night and you would hope attendance would get a bump. Imagine saying Babe Ruth is coming to town and taking the mound to duel with a young Orioles Rookie of the Year hopeful. Sadly, I think because it's a Monday night, we might see poor attendance just because of the weeknight alone.

Not bad for a Monday night at all. People can still go to see Ohtani play as designated hitter Wednesday and Thursday.

He doesn't play the night after he pitches?  The weather has been great for this long home stand. Should draw 80,000 or so for the four games. Thursday should have 30,000 or more.

The Angels run a 6 man rotation to accommodate Ohtani. Last night I looked at what he does in the rotation and the last time they went through the rotation, he rested the day after he pitched.

Through 20 home dates, attendance is at 395,651, up from 332,208 last year.  That’s an increase of 19%, or about 3,172 per game.

That increase is perhaps slightly misleading, because last year the O’s had an early rainout that resulted in a single admission doubleheader on a Sunday, so they only had 19 paid admissions in their first 20 games.  Still, it’s a healthy increase.  At this time last year, there had been 5 games under 10,000 fans; there’s only been 1 this year, and it was higher than 4 of the 5 from last year.  The Sunday crowds this year have been much higher than last year.

So, early signs are that attendance could top 1.6 mm, compared to 1.368 mm last year.  Hopefully it could be higher than that if the O’s are in a pennant race all season.

Thanks Frobby, that is a healthy increase. I was and remain concerned about fans coming back proportional to the product on the field.  If this trend continues maybe JA will live up to his promise of adding payroll at the deadline.....or maybe not.

I am not someone who reflexively bashes ownership at every turn, but let’s be clear: at their current payroll, the O’s are extremely profitable, and they can easily afford to add payroll at the deadline regardless of any attendance increase.

I'm more worried about him signing a lease to ensure the team remains the Baltimore Orioles, and he's not going to pull a Mayflower truck in the middle of night on fans.
