Ok. But he went all the way back to the bag instead of hanging about 20 feet off the bag.   He would have been able to get back to the bag if it was caught or to 3B if it wasn't.  Awful baserunning!  Instead of bases loaded and 0 outs it was 1st and 2nd with one out.  Mistakes like that lose games.

He’s “struggling” with a .792 OPS and on pace for 80+ SB.

Maybe Ced was getting back at Mountcastle for the team after he cost us a few outs this series.

You could see the look on Mountcastle's face after Mullins was forced out at third.  He really wanted that hit for his stat line.

Maybe he wanted the bases to remain loaded, to increase the chances of scoring more runs.

Perhaps.  I can't help but think he really wanted that base hit, coming off a 1 for 15 stretch.   Did not mean it as an insult.

I noticed the stink eye too - natural human reaction in the moment.     Fodder for Kathryn Rowe to help keep growing the mindset it doesn't matter his OBP is .240 something, it only matters he scorched that ball.

I don't know whether Kathryn goes to the Arb hearings.

I think his initial instinct was that the ball might be caught.

This is what I was saying yesterday. To elaborate, he's off 2nd, thinks it's going to get caught, starts back to the bag and when he realizes it's not going to be caught, it's too late. Didn't the LF immediately catch off the bounce and throw to 3B?

I also think the timing of the camera angle switching was off, like the camera's weren't in synch which makes it seem like he was really late running to 3rd.

Yes, he certainly got turned around quickly.  Hopefully Santander and Gunnar will follow suit.

I get that but he looked like he was going back to tag.   I guess maybe he thought he could go to 3rd if they overthrow the cutoff man.  I'm not sure.   Where that ball was hit, there is no way even a fast runner could tag and get to 3rd with any kind of decent throw.
