Not to forgive Greyson but two Chicago Podcasters brought up that the wind was gusting and giving balls hit to right field 17 more feet.

At the 11:20 mark they discuss a weather report in Chicago that tells where the ball is being helped by the wind.   Going to Left it was pushing the ball down by around 13 feet.  To center it was pretty evenish.  To right at the exact spots the two homeruns were hit off Greyson was being pushed out by 17 feet.

Interesting.

That would explain why it didn't go over the left field wall when Mateo crushed that ball.

Thanks for posting this. Interesting, indeed.

I went to their podcast just to listen to the other sides opinions.  When he had a very detailed wind gust weather report I thought it was pretty important and might explain a little of why the White Sox got those two quick homers.

That clip made me curious about the home runs today, so I looked at the statcast on the home runs.  The ball by Gavin Sheets, while that is a home run sometimes, the expected batting average on it is like .190 and the average carry on a ball hit that hard is ~360-365 feet.  It did look like a bit of a hanger, but Sheets didn't exactly crush that one.  Kind of unlucky on Rodriguez's part.

On the Chicago broadcast before the game they estimated that fly balls to right would get an extra 17 feet of distance due to wind. The impact of the wind is backed up by the .190 xBA. Looks like we can't view "number of parks" on Baseball Savant until tomorrow? Regardless, it was a really bad break for that to get out with two guys on. On another day that is a warning track fly ball for an out.
