Forfeit in Dominican League finals

Very strange, and sad night in the championship series of the winter league in the Dominican Republic last evening.

The Tigres del Licey now lead the best of nine finals three games to none after the umpires awarded them game three by forfeit. I'm still piecing together various accounts, but basically it seems that the Gigantes del Cibao refused to play after their shortstop, Felix Martinez, was suspended for the remainder of the series for assaulting an umpire.

The clearest English language take on this I've found so far is here:

Some of you may remember Felix Martinez from the 239 games he played with the Royals and Devil Rays between 1997-2001. He once broke the jaw of a sliding Otis Nixon with a kick, though that was apparently an accident & got suspended another time for a sucker punch during a brawl with the Angels.
