You shouldn't be managing your roster 3 or 4 games at a time. There's way too much talent in this organization for that.

There's nothing wrong with waiver claims for depth...but they're exactly that, depth for an emergency injury. I understand that they've made some decent waiver claims, but Ortiz could have stayed up and they could have still brought Stowers up.

They want Ortiz playing a lot. The catcher they just added I’m guessing is not going to be here long.

You have 13 position players- 4 man bench.

Adley, Ryan, Frazier, Urias, Mateo, Gunnar, Hays, Cedric, Santander, Stowers

McCann

McKenna

O’Hearn

They have been playing around at the margins for matchups. Even if Frazier was never signed you wouldn’t have both Westburg and Ortiz here right now. One at most. Not enough at bats.

They are juggling pieces that other teams they think won’t want and if they do so well to matchup and gain marginal advantages. Send guys down to AAA because nobody will claim them. Why not do it? This strategy has nothing to do with younger players not being here.
They are trying to create a 29/30 man roster and using the extra players to matchup.

It’s just presenting of facts.

Torrens just turned 27. He has 799 career ML plate appearances. His career OPS is 642. His career WAR is -1.6.

Do you think that’s a good player?

"Good" is irrelevant.

They want a third catcher to keep Adley's bat in the lineup this weekend.

They must like this guy more than the in-house options.

It's not complicated.

We’re not the 2000s big payroll Yankees. We don’t have a set roster at all 26 spots. Not every player is going to have some track record.

DD made these types of moves all the time when were winning. Now Elias is doing the same thing.

This is what winning looks like. All the games matter. So Elias is looking for all matchup advantages. The offseason is over. We’re in season now.

The thing is, do you really need to “juggle” anything?  Can’t you just have a team with your best players, use this versatility you (not you you) constantly push on everyone and make that your advantage?

We can just rotate so many guys in and out of the lineup until players really establish themselves and then, you can start to have more solidified lineups and rotational end of bench pieces that you can move in and out depending on matchups.

The players you want up here aren’t impacted by these moves. These are 26th man moves. I guess you could argue with Stowers early on it was 25 and 26th roster moves.

Elias is trying to create more versatility with players who he doubts will be claimed due to their contracts. It looks like they will keep matching up depending on current need.

Is this Brian Cashman?

Anything to disparage him.  He had a 1.45 ERA last year or something in a year SG called him "terrible" or one of his other limited adjectives.

His career K rate is good but not great.  His BB rate is on the high side. He throws strikes at a below average rate throughout his career. He misses bats at or a little above the league average over the course of his career.

His career ERA is 3.76. Entering this season, he had thrown all of 73 ML innings since 2017.  His recent MiL track record, at highly advanced ages, is very mediocre and up and down.

So yea, anyone who was expecting anything out of him coming into this season was dumb. Now, has he shown signs in his career that he could be a serviceable reliever?  Sure.

It’s certainly not shocking that he comes up and can get guys out and help a team but he was a dime a dozen guy entering this year and if the Yankees had acquired him and there fans were excited about it, you would laugh at them.

Do things always fly over your head in anything you do or just on here?

That’s not what I asked. Do you think he’s a good player. It’s a simple question.

If MLB had a 29 man roster and only 26 could be active would there be anyone upset?

This is somewhat similar to the NFL where you sit 7 players a game. 53 on roster, 46 can play.

There is no MLB rule but Elias is creating his own version.

It's not about Coulombe anymore than it is about DeJong.  It's about you passing your opinions off as facts and calling anyone who disagrees, including the decision-makers, stupid.

Instead of calling everything you don't like stupid, try and take a moment and see it through the perspective of the people making the decisions.  If you did that you would see that so many things you think are stupid or indefensible, actually have strong logical arguments for them.

This move isn't about this catcher.  It isn't even about the 26th man on the roster.  It's about getting Adley's bat in the lineup as much as possible.

How can you not like Elias buying the best RH bat vs LHP available?  That’s all this is. He’s a weekend rental bat.

Throw out his seasons where he was a rule 5 pick. His one full time playing season in 2021, he put up an .854 OPS vs LHP.

The move isn't to be judged by how "good" this guy is in a vacuum.

It's about what it allows them to do.  And what it allows them to do is to get Adley in the lineup as much as possible.
