4/42 with 2009 included would be where I would draw the line, so I voted no. I'd still prefer to trade him if there'd be a good enough return, but that's looking increasingly unlikely. To me extending him is far preferable to two draft picks, though.

I would prefer 4/44, but whats one more mill at that point. I voted yes.

4/44 would be my max as well, but the poll number was close enough to vote yes.

It is a bit much either way, but as I've noted before, even if production falls off in that fourth season, it is still worth it to have an all around player, lead-off hitter of that caliber and experience helping a young team get better faster.

That said, in a GM role, I'd still counter the current rumored 3/30 with a 3/33 with a 2 million buyout option for year four to see if that bridges the gap at all.

Yes.

I think I would be content either way on this one (trade or sign), there is no one knocking on the door and he is more valuable to the O's than to any other club. I think he is worth it for the roles he fills, i.e. lead-off man, + defense, base running, veteran presence, etc.

Part of me agrees with Mackus, but on the other hand, while not the optimal contract, I don't see it being a crippling mistake. The main reason I voted yes is because we don't have any depth organizationally at 2B, and so far with any trade talks we haven't heard about getting a solid one back.

This would turn into another Miggy situation of everyone *****ing and moaning about our 2B problems for years to come.

4/44 is fine. Roberts is a known entity..two years ago he had the severe arm injury, worked hard and came back. Last off season he worked on his hitting from the right side and improved dramatically. I think he will always work to improve even into his 30's. He allows the number 2 hitter to see a lot of fastballs. He is connected to the community and he deserves a decent contract after suffering through so many 90 or so loss seasons. Will he show a decline? Probably, but he will not fall off the table. It will give the O's time to draft or develop the next second baseman, if not the O's will be looking for 3 infielders next year.

The team has to start somewhere, Markakis was a start, now Roberts would open all of baseballs eyes.

Might he be on the downside in 4 yrs? very possible . The money is worth him dealing with the organization when Thrift and Beattie were here.

Show the young guys the team wants to keep the player who come up thru the system and reward them.

Plus the 50 doubles and 4o sb's dont hurt either!
