I’m assuming we’ll option Rom back to AAA before our next game with the bullpen rested. Keep Rom in his starting routine.

40 man options would be Gilaspie, Vespi, Zimmerman, Watkins(health?), Irvin, or one of Givens/Tate, but I don’t think Givens/Tate are ready yet.

A long shot would be to see what we have in Darwinzon Hernandez, but we’d have to put him on the 40 man. It would be nice to have a flame throwing lefty.

I don't see any reason to send him down right now.

Keeping him here as an insurance policy and not pitching him is a bad idea.

Zimmermann can do that.

2023 Pirates team OPS split is +46 vs. LHP.    That and the appropriateness of Drew Rom to throw a game today or tomorrow my guess is favors a move.

The Lowenstein/Roenicke of 2023 is roster spots on a day to day basis.

Yup. Or we can fire up the Norfolk shuttle. Is Watkins still hurt?  Anyway, we should try and keep our depth SP on routine in AAA. Hall, Irvin, Rom, Watkins, and Denoyer.

When the pen is rested we should fire up the Norfolk shuttle with Akin, Gilaspie, Vespi, and non 40 guys like Khreibel, Vallimont, and Darwinzon.

You forgot Zimmermann.  But Elias has not.   Mentioned him in his Tuesday interview.

Yeah I think he 100% gets sent back down to make a start and keep him stretched out. However, we do need someone for that Akin role.

Irvin pitches this morning, so it won't be him.

I think Hall, Vespi, or Zimmermann are all sensible options. Kind of would like to get a look at Watson.

But he’s not pitching. That’s the point.

....because the starters have been very respectable the past two games.  We sure are in impatient bunch.

I haven't seen an ideal situation to bring him in the last two nights, so if having him as insurance and having our starters implode is a result I can live with.

I guarantee if Hyde had brought him into a high leverage situation in the last two games, and he failed, the OH would be going bonkers the other way.

Imagine if we all had someone looking over our shoulders at work second guessing every decision we made, before the decisions even have a chance to play out....

I’m not bashing them for not pitching him. It doesn’t matter to me.

But him sitting here and doing nothing when he is far from some polished prospect isn’t helpful either.  He should go back to AAA.

I think Rom was called up because it was his day to pitch, so he was more ready to provide length than the other Norfolk starters   Turns out they didn’t need length, so he didn’t pitch.  Now that we got through those two games, and have today off, I will be very surprised if Rom isn’t sent back down before the weekend series starts.  There are other Norfolk guys available and having a long man is less imperative with the way the last few days went.

In other words, I understand why they called him up, I understand why they didn’t use him, and I’ll understand it when when they send him back down.
