Gotta love baseball, man. It’ll break your heart sometimes but then you get moments like the defensive replacement  coming up in the spot of your hottest hitter and walking it off. Good for him.

Isn't that true of all sports?  That's why we watch.  There are transcendent moments that elevate the spirit.

Yes, but in my opinion baseball has a special quirkiness that the other sports don’t.

I watched the last 3 innings or so while playing poker at a friend's house, so I couldn't give 100% attention to the Oriole game game.

We made a ton of stupid baserunning mistakes as we've discussed on here, but there's one I don't see mentioned now that I am home and catching up on the game thread.   In the bottom of the 10th, when Adley flied out, wasn't it deep enough that Cedric should have been able to tag up and go to 3rd???   Would have been huge to get the win run to 3rd with just one out.   Fortunately, McKenna made sure it didn't matter, but it sure seemed to me like Cedric should have been able to move up there.

I believe it's not just a matter of gustibus. Baseball has certain structural, ritualistic, rules of play, and fan-relational traits that make it inherently and supremely "quirky," to use StottyByNature's term. I'd love to write a monograph on it.
