Moose Milligan
http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/sports/schmuck/ Well, it's official. He was a fun guy to have around and he loved playing the game. Class act all the way. I wish him the best. If this is really the end of his career, he had a good one...definitely made the most out of being a replacement player back in 94/95.
GnatsFan
Class act all the way. As throwing out the first pitch for a Red Sox game while a member of the Orioles would support. j/k Edit: Eh, maybe I read this wrong. Thanks for the kind words Millar? "Yeah, the bottom line is, obviously, they want to go in a different direction,'' Millar said from his home in Beaumont, Texas. "Now, what that means, I don't know. Are they going to win games this year? No. Obviously we know that going in. You've got to be realistic.
MurphDogg
Millar, classy to the end. "Now, what that means, I don't know. Are they going to win games this year? No. Obviously we know that going in. You've got to be realistic." Thanks for stopping by.
Miller192
I took my 1 year old to his first baseball game this year and I told Kevin that. He gave him his batting gloves. My kid dropped them in the parking lot never to be seen again. I appreciate you Kevin Millar.
threedaysrest
I like Millar and am a little disappointed he won't be around. Much as Walker helps glue together the 'pen when they don the gas cans, Millar managed to allay the clubhouse. Whatever direction the O's are headed, let's hope it's not backward. We've had enough bass-ackwardness the past 11 seasons. :laughlol:

I was always a big Millaah fan. He loved playing the game so much and was much fun to watch. I hope he gets a spot with another team if that's what he wants. He'll end up in the broadcast booth sooner than later.

JTrea81
Talked to Kevin Millar tonight on my WBAL show and he confirmed that he has been told the Orioles definitely are going in a new direction and that he will not be coming back in a reserve role. :clap3::clap3::beerchug1::2yay-thumb::boogie: Are they going to win games this year? No. Well we all know how his WS prediction turned out... :laughlol: Kevin, don't let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya...
MurphDogg
Sorry to violate the spirit of the appreciation thread, I just wanted to react to the quote. Millar always tried hard and looked like he was having fun out there. I appreciated his work in the Orioles Magic video and his involvement in every other dopey ritual the team decided to do, ie. hat flipping after victories. He was a better defensive player than he ever got credit for and though his disappointment is evident in these closing comments, he was in general an asset to the O's. His interactions with fans also seemed to be positive and frequent, he appreciated his position on a Major League roster and didn't take it for granted, thanks to the circuitous route by which he acquired it. Moose Milligan
Millar, classy to the end. "Now, what that means, I don't know. Are they going to win games this year? No. Obviously we know that going in. You've got to be realistic." Thanks for stopping by. Well isn't that what we say on here every day? I mean don't we all know going in that 2009 is just another part of the rebuilding process? Yet we act like the ballplayers don't know it, like it's some secret that should be kept from them. And when one is actually candid about it and says "Yeah, we're not gonna win a bunch of games", we chastise them for it? Keep reading his other quotes though: "I told Dave Trembley (with Millar at right) a month and a half ago, 'Listen, I'm 37 years old. I'm ready to make that transition and do whatever I can do to help the young guys. If that means playing against left-handers, coming off the bench, whatever.' I told him I'm ready to do whatever I need to do. They decided to go in a different direction, which is surprising to me. I'm not talking about this to sell myself. I'm low risk. I'm a one-year deal. I haven't been on the disabled list in awhile. I get along with everybody. Don't we love guys who are team players and will do whatever it takes to help players? Weren't we all drooling about getting Zaun so he could mentor Wieters? "Obviously, Aubrey Huff will play first base and they'll DH Luke Scott and whatever happens in the outfield. They didn't need me because they had Aubrey Huff, and he said he's willing to play first base and he deserves that job because of the unbelieveable year he had last year, and I understood that. Was I frustrated? For a second, yeah, because I enjoyed my time in Baltimore and I enjoyed the group of guys." For a fanbase that has a ginormous chip on its shoulder, I think we should appreciate guys who liked playing here. Lord knows we're not exactly a great free agent destination. The Rick
I've loved having Kevin be an Oriole these past few years. I'll miss him. I'll always remember him as a great clubhouse guy, funny as hell, and a guy who gave a damn when most people didn't. And who can forget his role in... Yes, I appreciate you Mr. Millar... you'll be missed! Boy Howdy
August 12, 2007...walkoff 3-run shot to beat the Red Sox at OPACY in the bottom of the 10th. Never forget it. That and hearing somebody get on his case about over-running a base and getting tagged out in the previous night's games. "I stopped," Millar insisted. "But the greenie kept going." (He was kidding...I think) Whatever, I hope he catches on somewhere because I root for guys who seem to like playing ball as much as I wish I could. Glad it's somewhere else, and he'll never have to buy a beer or a meal in the Boston area as long as he lives, so shed no tears for Kevin Millar. Scrat1
I'm a big, big fan. I'll definitely miss him and hope he has a solid career in the media or whatever else he decides to pursue. He was a blast to have around. [someone post the Orioles Magic video please. I can't find it.] edit: The Rick has it covered.

Weren't we all drooling about getting Zaun so he could mentor Wieters? He'd just take up a spot on the bench that could be used for a better player. The Orioles don't need a cheerleader, they need somebody that can play multiple roles on the club to help them win. Lord knows we're not exactly a great free agent destination. Millar wasn't exactly a great FA. The Orioles could have done better.
