O's have to go against a tough Lefty tonight...

Andrew Abbott is a very good pitcher.

Tough assignment for Gunnar hitting cleanup- his OPS is only .544 against lefties this year....  Not sure why he's in the lineup, let alone cleanup spot?

I'd be inclined to let him sit against Abbott.  Play Urias at 3B, Mateo SS, Westburg 2B...

Gunnar sat last night.  You don’t turn the top prospect in baseball into a platoon guy.  He’s not going to hit lefties better by riding the bench.

Some posters/fans can't/don't want to understand this. I have heard multiple times on this site people advocate for straight platoons with all players who are not switch hitters except for Austin Hays.

Yeah, but will the Orioles' chances of winning the game be increased by putting Gunnar in the lineup? Hard to say, but I think the answer is probably "yes."

Wahoowa and all but it is his 5th career MLB game, and word is rookies must struggle.

I think Clubs pay some attention to all AAA pitchers, but it probably helps even more once there are a few games of MLB tape.

If we can hit Gerrit Cole and Kevin Gausman, we can hit Andrew Abbott.    The present talent mix basically relies on our Bats coping well even with talented Arms.

According to Fangraphs:

Super small sample size: 23 IPs in MLB

Average FB Velo is 92.9; ( a little less than league average)

ERA= 1.14 but xERA=3.39 (FRobby .... 😘)

FIP= 4.19 while xFIP= 4.83

He's a fly ball pitcher with a GB%= 26%

HardHit%= 44.5% but his BABIP= 0.190

There may be a bit of luck involved in his early success.

Wahoowa? Now we really have to hit this guy!

But yeah, the bench tonight is four lefties. No reason for Gunnar to sit.

He's a big K guy who walks people and gives up some HR's. He's definitely having some luck on his side in 4 starts with an ERA of 1.14.

Definitely agree but why start Gunnar against the tougher LH? Why not last night instead? And then when you do, why bat him 4th?
