I personally know folks got mad at Adam Jones for blowing bubbles while "trying" to catch balls when in a big game against the Yankees late in the game Jones was blowing a bubble and let a ball hit his glove and he dropped it.  He then came in to the dugout and threw the gum away in anger.  Its on film.  Someone actually posted it on youtube.  You can google adam jones and dropping the ball and you can watch it yourself.

Also Jones never seemed to blow bubbles and make catches after this event.

Yes:  10 years in the majors, 5+ years with the current team.   Then a player has a right to veto any trade, as Adam Jones did.

But you're saying Verlander/ERod didn't get the no-trade clause through that and they negotiated them into their contracts? I don't really follow the financial/contractual side of baseball so I'm pretty ignorant about it all.

Right, 10/5 is a full no trade clause.

Evidently ERod negotiated for a 10 team list.

Yes.  EdRod obviously hasn't been with Detroit 5 years.   It was part of his free agent contract there he signed in the 2021/2022 offseason.

Really hope the O's are kicking the tires on ERod unless there's something disqualifying about his makeup/contract. He's arguably the best short-term and long-term solution at starting pitcher and he wants to be here/is kinda sorta homegrown. If you can get that at a below-market value, I'm not sure what else you're looking for in a trade.

Jones dropped two flyballs blowing bubbles against the Yankees. One of them was in the playoffs in 2012. Both were in big moments of the game.

    • I think it’s like when our fans are terrified because a team brings up a spot starter from AAA and we fear they are going to turn into Cy Young.
    • “It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops.” — A Bartlett Giamatti https://mason.gmu.edu/~rmatz/giamatti.html

By any measure, Cowser is leading AL rookies in WAR, and it’s not that close. “

    • Every year at the end of the season, I feel a little melancholy. For me, the end of summer is not the start of school or the arrival of fall, but the end of baseball season. Today is the last day of a long song, and I will miss it. I know we have at least four more days, but those are in a different category, although I will miss that too when it ends. During the darkest days of the season, I posted frequently that the worst day of baseball is still baseball. When the Os played terrible, I would go focus on the Brewers or the A’s or Mariners(who were almost as frustrating as the Os) and follow along with former Orioles, rooting for all of them. That will all stop by tonight, and I will miss it until next February, when pitchers and catchers report. If I’m still here, I’ll be here.    Go Os…
    • We have to wait and see. But it shouldn’t matter as you have to beat whomever you play.
