As I said above and tonight's game reaffirms....why trade away good and potential great young players that can make your team a dynasty for years to come for a guy that may or may not help you for 2 months for one year?

It's better, at least for me, than saying "We really gave it our best..." from a guy known for being a straight shooter.  Which gives skeptics of the organization (with regard to not doing everything that can be done to improve), perhaps like yourself, an opportunity to mock such a comment.

Hindsight 20/20 but Lorenzen just got a no hitter.  I thought he would be a solid pickup and didn’t think price was that high.  A lot of people were very against it but he has pitched better then Flaherty lately.  I think they wanted playoff experience with Flaherty though.

Lorenzen: 2 GS, 17 IP, 6H, 2ER since the trade deadline.  Not chopped liver and all for the price of a middling A+ IF.  Flaherty was not an either/or proposition.  I'm a big Elias fan but this was a whiff.

That would also allow lending a starting pitcher to a bullpen that badly needs the help right now by adding Flaherty and Lorenzen.

Elias should have traded for both! More pitching is always a good thing.

I will defer to Elias and Sig on the decisions because I think they do a decent job of evaluating talent. But with that said, I don't think they are aggressive enough or tactful enough in negotiations. It's either that, or they are being held back and hand cuffed by the owner. Which would also be a terrible long term problem for this franchise if the latter is true.

It’s 2 starts, kind of a short period to call it a whiff. Flaherty had the good start and the 3 run over 5 innings last night. He hasn’t been bad, but Lorenzen has been on a high. He’s not going to continue to pitch 8 plus per start or have a 1 ERA.

I’m less concerned about Flaherty than the black hole in the BP between the 5th and 9th innings. I’m hopeful that Elias has a plan with Means/Givens and maybe McDermott or Povich and we just don’t know what it is yet. If not, yeesh.

Hopefully Wells too. I know it's not optimal for a bunch of roster moves on a team that is in the O's situation, but some of it is absolutely necessary.

How about some context? Lorenzen has pitched against Miami and DC, 2 of the worst offensive teams in baseball.

Flaherty has pitched against Toronto and Houston, 2 of the best offensive teams.

Flaherty K rate: 13 Lorenzen: 5.3

Flaherty BB rate: 3.3 Lorenzen: 2.6

Both have allowed 1 HR

Lorenzen throwing more strikes, Flaherty missing more bats.

Lorenzen also has an issue with the amount of innings he has pitched and we will see if he wears down and if his lack of swing and miss stuff is an issue against the better offenses, if he faces them.

I agree. Flaherty has looked great. No hitters happen. Flaherty is the better pitcher, but both are doing great so far.

We need a RH reliever. Baker and Fuji can’t be trusted. Baumann has been rode hard this year. Cano still doesn’t look Cano from earlier this year.

Hopefully, a RH relief option hits waivers like Webb.
